1. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating power tools. Read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before using the IKRA IECS 2240 TF electric chainsaw. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

General Safety Guidelines:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, sturdy footwear, and leg protection (e.g., chainsaw chaps). A hard hat and face shield are also recommended.
  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Do not operate the chainsaw in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Keep children and bystanders away while operating the chainsaw.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the power cord is in good condition and positioned so it will not be cut or snagged. Do not expose the chainsaw to rain or wet conditions. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces.
  • Chainsaw Specific Safety:
    • Kickback Prevention: Be aware of the kickback danger zone. The IKRA IECS 2240 TF is equipped with a mechanical run-out brake and kickback brake for enhanced safety.
    • Proper Grip: Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands, with thumbs and fingers encircling the chainsaw handles.
    • Chain Catcher: The integrated chain catcher bolt is designed to reduce the risk of injury in case of chain derailment or breakage.
    • Cable Strain Relief: The cable strain relief feature helps prevent accidental disconnection of the power cord during operation.
    • Claw Stop: Utilize the claw stop for better control and stability during cutting.
  • Maintenance: Disconnect the chainsaw from the power supply before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or adjustments.

  • Saw Chain: The cutting chain that rotates around the guide bar.
  • Front Handle: For stable two-hand operation.
  • Rear Handle (with Softgrip): Main operating handle with trigger switch.
  • Chain Brake/Hand Guard: Safety feature to stop the chain and protect the hand.
  • Oil Reservoir Cap: For filling chain oil.
  • Oil Level Indicator: To check the chain oil level.
  • Claw Stop: For improved cutting stability and leverage.
  • Power Cord with Strain Relief: For electrical connection and protection against cable damage.

3. Setup

Proper assembly and preparation are crucial for safe and effective operation of your electric chainsaw.

3.1 Chain and Bar Assembly:

The IKRA IECS 2240 TF features tool-free chain assembly and tensioning, simplifying setup.

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove the chainsaw, guide bar, and saw chain from the packaging.
  2. Install Guide Bar: Place the guide bar onto the chainsaw's mounting studs.
  3. Install Saw Chain: Loop the saw chain around the sprocket and guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges are facing the correct direction (refer to chain direction indicator on the bar).
  4. Tool-Free Chain Tensioning: Use the integrated tensioning knob or mechanism to adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. A properly tensioned chain will not sag on the underside of the guide bar.

3.2 Filling Chain Oil:

The chainsaw features automatic chain lubrication. It is essential to fill the oil reservoir before each use.

  1. Locate Oil Cap: Unscrew the oil reservoir cap (refer to Figure 2.3).
  2. Fill Reservoir: Fill the reservoir with high-quality chain and bar oil. Do not use waste oil or motor oil.
  3. Check Oil Level: Monitor the oil level using the oil level indicator during operation and refill as needed.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your IKRA electric chainsaw.

4.1 Pre-Operation Checklist:

  • Ensure all safety equipment is worn.
  • Check chain tension and sharpness.
  • Verify oil reservoir is full.
  • Inspect power cord for damage.
  • Clear the work area of obstacles and bystanders.

4.2 Starting and Stopping:

  1. Starting:
    • Ensure the chain brake is engaged (pushed forward).
    • Plug the chainsaw into a suitable power outlet.
    • Disengage the chain brake (pull back).
    • Press the safety lock-off button and then squeeze the trigger switch to start the motor.
  2. Stopping:
    • Release the trigger switch. The chain will stop quickly due to the mechanical brake.
    • Engage the chain brake for added safety when not actively cutting.
    • Unplug the chainsaw from the power outlet when finished or before any adjustments.

4.3 Cutting Techniques:

The ergonomic softgrip handles and comfortable felling handle allow for both horizontal and vertical cuts.

  • General Cutting: Maintain a firm grip with both hands. Let the saw do the work; do not force it.
  • Felling: For felling small trees, plan your escape path and make proper felling cuts (notch and back cut). Always ensure the area is clear.
  • Limbing and Bucking: Be aware of potential pinch points and kickback. Use the claw stop for stability when cutting logs on the ground or a sawhorse.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your IKRA electric chainsaw. Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance.

5.1 Chain Maintenance:

  • Sharpening: A sharp chain is crucial for efficient and safe cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when dull. Refer to the chain manufacturer's guidelines for proper sharpening angles.
  • Tension: Check chain tension frequently, especially during initial use and after prolonged operation. A loose chain can derail, while an overly tight chain can cause premature wear.
  • Lubrication: Ensure the automatic oiling system is functioning correctly. Keep the oil reservoir filled with appropriate chain and bar oil.

5.2 Guide Bar Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: Clean the guide bar groove regularly to remove sawdust and debris that can impede chain movement.
  • Flipping: Periodically flip the guide bar to ensure even wear on both sides.

5.3 General Cleaning and Storage:

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the chainsaw housing, cooling vents, and chain brake mechanism. Use a damp cloth; do not use solvents.
  • Storage: Store the chainsaw in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children. Use the provided guide bar cover for protection.
