1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the installation and proper use of the Panasonic Strada Digital Terrestrial Film Antenna and GPS Metal Sheet Set. This genuine Panasonic product is designed to replace or upgrade the digital terrestrial television (DTV) reception and GPS positioning capabilities of your compatible Panasonic Strada car navigation system, specifically models CN-HE01D and CN-HE01WD. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation to ensure correct setup and optimal performance.

3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. It is recommended that installation be performed by a qualified professional. If you choose to install it yourself, proceed with caution and follow these general guidelines:

3.1 Preparation

  1. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off and the battery is disconnected to prevent electrical hazards.
  2. Clean the installation surface on the windshield thoroughly using the provided cleaner or an alcohol-based cleaner. The surface must be free of dust, grease, and moisture.
  3. Identify the correct placement for each film antenna (left/right, top/bottom) as indicated by your car navigation system's specific installation guide.

3.2 Film Antenna Installation

  1. Carefully peel off the protective backing from the film antenna.
  2. Align the antenna precisely on the designated area of the windshield. Avoid trapping air bubbles.
  3. Press firmly from the center outwards to ensure good adhesion.
  4. Repeat for all four film antennas.

3.3 Antenna Cord Connection

  1. Connect each antenna cord to its corresponding film antenna. Ensure a secure connection.
  2. Route the antenna cords neatly along the vehicle's interior, typically behind trim panels, to the location of the car navigation unit. Avoid sharp bends or pinching the cables.
  3. Connect the antenna cords to the appropriate input ports on your Panasonic Strada CN-HE01D or CN-HE01WD navigation system. Refer to your navigation system's manual for specific port locations.

3.4 GPS Metal Sheet Installation

  1. The GPS metal sheet should be placed underneath your existing GPS antenna (not included) to improve its signal reception and stability.
  2. Clean the surface where the GPS antenna will be mounted.
  3. Peel off the protective backing from the GPS metal sheet and adhere it to the chosen mounting location.
  4. Mount your GPS antenna directly on top of the installed GPS metal sheet.

4. Operating Instructions

Once the film antennas and GPS metal sheet are correctly installed and connected to your Panasonic Strada navigation system, they operate passively. The system will automatically utilize these components for improved DTV reception and GPS positioning.

  • Digital Terrestrial Television (DTV): Turn on your navigation system and select the DTV function. The genuine Panasonic film antennas are designed to maximize reception sensitivity, providing a stable broadcast signal.
  • GPS Positioning: The GPS metal sheet helps to stabilize the GPS signal received by your navigation unit, leading to more accurate and reliable positioning. No specific user action is required for the metal sheet to function after installation.

5. Maintenance

These components are designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation. However, consider the following:

  • Cleaning: Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials on the film antennas on your windshield. Clean the windshield as usual, being careful not to peel or damage the antennas.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the film antennas for any signs of peeling or damage. Ensure antenna cords are not pinched or exposed to excessive wear.
  • Environmental Factors: Extreme temperatures or prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can affect adhesive over time. Ensure proper installation to minimize these effects.

6. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with DTV reception or GPS positioning after installation, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Poor DTV Reception:
    • Verify all antenna cord connections are secure at both the film antenna and the navigation unit.
    • Check for any visible damage to the film antennas or cords.
    • Ensure the film antennas are correctly positioned on the windshield according to your navigation system's guidelines.
    • Confirm that your vehicle is in an area with adequate digital terrestrial broadcast coverage.
  • Inaccurate GPS Positioning:
    • Ensure the GPS metal sheet is correctly installed directly beneath your GPS antenna.
    • Verify that your GPS antenna is properly connected to the navigation unit.
    • Check for any obstructions (e.g., metallic objects, tinted windows with metallic film) that might interfere with the GPS signal.
    • Test the GPS functionality in an open area with a clear view of the sky.
  • No Power/No Signal:
    • Ensure the car navigation system itself is powered on and functioning correctly.
    • Consult your Panasonic Strada navigation system's user manual for system-specific troubleshooting.
