1. Package Contents

Verify that your package contains the following items:

2. Setup

2.1 Connecting the Handset

  1. Connect one end of the coiled handset cord to the handset.
  2. Connect the other end of the coiled handset cord to the jack labeled HANDSET on the side of the phone base unit.

2.2 Connecting the Telephone Line

  1. Connect one end of the telephone line cord to the jack labeled LINE on the back of the phone base unit.
  2. Connect the other end of the telephone line cord to your wall telephone jack.

2.3 Power Supply

The UNIDEN AS6404 is designed to operate without an external power adapter or batteries for basic functions, drawing power directly from the telephone line. This feature ensures functionality even during power outages. Some advanced features, such as LCD backlight and memory retention, may utilize a small internal battery (not user-replaceable) or rely on line power.

2.4 Wall Mounting

The phone is wall-mountable. To mount the phone:

  1. Locate the wall mounting holes on the back of the base unit.
  2. Install two screws (not included) into the wall, spaced appropriately for the mounting holes.
  3. Slide the phone onto the screws until it is securely in place.

3. Basic Operation

3.1 Making a Call

  1. Lift the handset or press the SPEAKER button.
  2. Listen for a dial tone.
  3. Dial the desired telephone number.

3.2 Answering a Call

  1. When the phone rings, lift the handset or press the SPEAKER button to answer.

3.3 Ending a Call

  1. Place the handset back on the cradle or press the SPEAKER button again if using speakerphone.

3.4 Speakerphone Function

To use the speakerphone:

  1. Press the SPEAKER button to initiate or answer a call without lifting the handset.
  2. Adjust the speaker volume using the volume control buttons (if available, refer to phone's physical buttons).
  3. Press the SPEAKER button again to end the call.

3.5 Redialing the Last Number

To redial the last number dialed:

  1. Lift the handset or press the SPEAKER button.
  2. Press the REDIAL button. The phone will automatically dial the last number.

4.1 Caller ID

The phone supports Caller ID (CID) for both incoming and outgoing calls, provided you have subscribed to the service from your telephone provider.

  • Incoming CID: Stores up to 61 incoming call records. Use the UP/DOWN navigation buttons to review the call history.
  • Outgoing CID: Stores up to 16 outgoing call records with conversation time review.

4.2 LCD Display Settings

The backlit LCD displays the Year, Month, Date, and Time. Refer to the phone's menu or SET button for instructions on adjusting these settings.

4.3 Ringer Volume Adjustment

You can adjust the ringer volume to High (HI), Medium (MID), Low (LOW), or Off (OFF) to suit your environment. Use the dedicated RINGER button or menu option to cycle through the settings.

4.4 Flash Time Selection

The flash time is selectable (100 / 300 / 600ms) to ensure compatibility with various telephone systems (PABX, etc.). Adjust this setting via the phone's menu if you experience issues with call transfer or conference features.

4.5 Message Waiting Lamp (MWL)

The Message Waiting Lamp (MWL) indicates when you have new messages in your voicemail service (PULSE, FSK, DTMF compatible). This feature requires subscription to a voicemail service from your telephone provider.

4.6 Tone/Pulse Dialing Mode

The phone supports both Tone and Pulse dialing modes. Select the appropriate mode based on your telephone line service. This setting is usually found in the phone's setup menu.

4.7 Ringer Tone Selection

Choose from various ringer tones to personalize your phone. Consult the user interface for available options and selection method.

4.8 Alarm Clock Function

The integrated alarm clock function allows you to set a wake-up or reminder alarm. Access this feature through the phone's menu settings.

4.9 Other Functions

  • Pre Dial Function: Allows you to enter a number before lifting the handset or initiating a call.
  • Music on Hold / Do Not Disturb (DND): These features may be available through specific button presses or menu options. Refer to the on-screen prompts or quick reference guide for activation.
  • Contrast Adjustable: Adjust the LCD display contrast for optimal viewing.
  • IDD Code and PABX Dial Outcode Setting: For international direct dialing or private automatic branch exchange systems.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

To keep your phone in good condition:

  • Wipe the phone with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure no liquid enters the phone's openings.

5.2 Storage

If you need to store the phone for an extended period, disconnect it from the telephone line and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
