4. Setup

Setting up your NEXUSLINK Powerline Adapter Kit is a simple process. A minimum of two G.hn Powerline Adapters are required to create a network.

4.1. Initial Powerline Adapter Setup

  1. Plug in the First Adapter: Plug one Powerline Adapter into a power outlet near your modem/router. For maximum performance, plug the Powerline Adapter directly into the wall outlet. Do not plug into a power strip or surge protector, as network performance could degrade significantly.
  2. Connect to Modem/Router: Connect this Powerline Adapter to your modem/router's LAN Port with an Ethernet (RJ-45) cable. Wait 10 seconds for the Ethernet LED to light up GREEN, which indicates a connection is established. A flashing GREEN light indicates that the device is sending data.
  3. Plug in the Second Adapter: Plug the other Powerline Adapter into a power outlet near the internet-enabled device (e.g., TV, PC, STB, DVR).
  4. Connect to Device: Connect this Powerline Adapter to the internet-enabled device with an Ethernet (RJ-45) cable. The Connection LED and Ethernet LED on the front of the Powerline Adapter should be GREEN, which represents a strong connection.

4.2. Pairing the Powerline Adapters

To ensure a secure and private network, you need to pair your Powerline Adapters:

  1. Press the Config Button on one Adapter for 3 seconds until you see the Security LED start blinking GREEN.
  2. Repeat this process on the other Powerline Adapter. The Security LED and the Connection LED should light up GREEN on both adapters when they are successfully paired. This indicates a secure and strong connection.

To join an existing G.hn Powerline network, press the Config Button on any Powerline Adapter in the existing G.hn Powerline network for 3 seconds until you see the Security LED start blinking GREEN. Then press the Config Button on the additional Powerline Adapter. The Security LED and the Connection LED will light up GREEN on both adapters.

You can connect up to 16 compatible Powerline devices for seamless coverage throughout your home or office. Note: This device uses G.hn Wave 1 technology. For higher speeds, consider upgrading to G.hn Wave 2.

5. Operating Instructions

Once your NEXUSLINK Powerline Adapter Kit is set up and paired, it operates automatically. The adapters create a stable wired network connection through your electrical outlets, eliminating the need for new Ethernet cables.

  • Automatic Connection: After initial setup, the adapters will automatically establish a connection when powered on.
  • Expanding Your Network: You can add more G.hn compatible Powerline Adapters to your network, up to a maximum of 16 devices, by following the pairing instructions in Section 4.2.
  • Power Saving Mode: The adapters are designed to enter a power-saving mode when no data is being transmitted, indicated by a blinking Connection LED.

6. Maintenance

The NEXUSLINK Powerline Ethernet Adapter Kit requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly wipe the adapters with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust.
  • Avoid Obstructions: Ensure the adapters are not covered or placed in enclosed spaces that could hinder ventilation.
  • Direct Wall Plug: Always plug the adapters directly into a wall outlet. Avoid power strips, extension cords, or surge protectors, as these can interfere with the powerline signal and reduce performance.
  • Environmental Conditions: Use the adapters in indoor environments only. Do not expose them to water or extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Powerline Adapter Kit, refer to the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Connection LED is OFF: This indicates that a Powerline Adapter connection does not exist. Try plugging both Powerline Adapters into power outlets located within the same room. The Connection LED should light up GREEN. If not, press the Config Button on each adapter for more than 10 seconds to factory reset, then attempt pairing again.
  • Ethernet LED is OFF: If the Ethernet LED fails to light up, check that the LAN port of the Powerline Adapter is connected firmly to the LAN port of the other device (e.g., computer, router). Try using a different Ethernet cable to test the connection.
  • Security LED is OFF: This means the adapter is not paired in Secure Mode. Follow the pairing instructions in Section 4.2 to establish a secure connection.
  • Slow Connection Speed: Ensure both adapters are plugged directly into wall outlets and not into power strips. Interference from other electrical devices on the same circuit can also affect performance. Try moving the adapters to different outlets.
