Setup

1. Unpacking and Placement

Carefully remove the typewriter from its packaging. Place the unit on a stable, flat surface with adequate ventilation.

2. Power Connection

  1. Insert the power cord into the power input port on the back of the typewriter.
  2. Plug the other end of the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.
  3. Press the power button, usually located on the side or front panel, to turn on the typewriter.

3. Ribbon Installation

  1. Open the ribbon cover, typically located above the platen.
  2. Align the ribbon cartridge with the guides inside the compartment.
  3. Press down firmly until the cartridge clicks into place. Ensure the ribbon feeds correctly through the print head mechanism.
  4. Close the ribbon cover.

4. Correction Tape Installation

  1. Locate the correction tape compartment, usually adjacent to the ribbon compartment.
  2. Insert the correction tape cartridge, ensuring it is properly seated and the tape path is clear.
  3. Close the correction tape cover.

5. Paper Loading

  1. Adjust the paper guides to the width of your paper (A4 or 8.27 x 11.69 inches).
  2. Insert the paper into the paper feed slot behind the platen.
  3. Turn the platen knob (if available) or use the paper feed lever to advance the paper to the desired starting position.

Operating Instructions

1. Basic Typing

  • Ensure the typewriter is powered on and paper is loaded.
  • Begin typing on the keyboard. The "Perfect type professional touch keyboard" is designed for comfortable and accurate input.
  • The text will appear on the display (if equipped) and then be printed onto the paper.

2. Correction Function

The SX-4000 allows you to "Make corrections before printing to paper" and features "Automatic relocation after correction".

  1. If you make a mistake, press the Correction key (often labeled CORRECT or LIFT-OFF).
  2. The typewriter will automatically backspace and apply correction tape over the last typed character(s).
  3. Retype the correct character(s). The machine will automatically reposition for the next character.

3. Using the Touch Screen (if applicable)

If your model includes a touch screen, it may be used for accessing settings, reviewing typed text before printing, or advanced correction features. Refer to the on-screen prompts for navigation.

Maintenance

1. Ribbon Replacement

Replace the ribbon cartridge when print quality deteriorates or the ribbon is exhausted.

  1. Ensure the typewriter is turned off and unplugged.
  2. Open the ribbon cover.
  3. Carefully remove the used ribbon cartridge by lifting it out.
  4. Install a new Brother-compatible ribbon cartridge as described in the Setup section.
  5. Close the ribbon cover.

2. Correction Tape Replacement

Replace the correction tape when it is used up or ineffective.

  1. Ensure the typewriter is turned off and unplugged.
  2. Open the correction tape compartment.
  3. Remove the empty correction tape cartridge.
  4. Install a new Brother-compatible correction tape cartridge as described in the Setup section.
  5. Close the compartment.

3. Cleaning

Regular cleaning helps maintain optimal performance.

  • Turn off and unplug the typewriter before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces.
  • For hard-to-reach areas, use a small brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris from the keyboard and print head area.
  • Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
