2. Safety Information

WARNING: Always ensure that all accessories are compatible with your pool and strictly follow all installation recommendations and safety guidelines provided in this manual. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Read all instructions carefully before installing and operating this product.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  • Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Do not operate the pump if the power cord or plug is damaged.
  • Ensure the pump is installed on a solid, level surface, away from the pool edge to prevent accidental immersion.
  • All electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician and comply with local regulations.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:

  • Intex SX1500 Sand Filter Pump Unit
  • Digital Control Panel with Integrated Timer
  • 6-Way Valve
  • Included Adapters (32/38mm) for hose connections
  • Instruction Manual

Note: Hoses for connecting to the pool are typically sold separately.

4. Setup

Proper setup is crucial for the efficient operation of your sand filter pump. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Placement: Position the sand filter pump on a firm, level surface, ideally below the water level of your pool for optimal performance. Ensure it is at least 2 meters (6.5 feet) away from the pool.
  2. Sand/Glass Media Installation: Open the sand tank and carefully add the recommended amount of filter sand or glass media. Refer to the product specifications for the correct quantity and type of media. Ensure the standpipe is centered during this process.
  3. Connect Hoses: Connect the inlet hose from your pool's skimmer/main drain to the pump's inlet port. Connect the outlet hose from the pump's return port to your pool's return jet. Use the included 32/38mm adapters as needed to ensure a secure, leak-free connection.
  4. 6-Way Valve Connection: Securely attach the 6-way valve to the top of the sand tank. Ensure all gaskets and O-rings are correctly seated to prevent leaks.
  5. Electrical Connection: Once all plumbing is complete and checked for leaks, connect the pump to a grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) or Residual Current Device (RCD).

5. Operating Instructions

The Intex SX1500 features a user-friendly digital control panel and a versatile 6-way valve for various functions:

5.1. 6-Way Valve Functions

The 6-way valve allows you to select different operating modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position.

  • FILTER: This is the standard operating mode for daily pool water filtration. Water flows through the sand/glass media, removing impurities, and returns to the pool.
  • BACKWASH: Used to clean the filter media. Water flows in reverse through the sand/glass, dislodging trapped debris, and is discharged through the waste port. Perform backwash when the pressure gauge indicates high pressure (typically 8-10 PSI above normal operating pressure).
  • RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining debris from the filter media and settle the sand/glass. Water flows through the filter and is discharged through the waste port.
  • WASTE: Bypasses the filter and sends water directly out the waste port. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste or lowering the pool water level.
  • RECIRCULATE: Bypasses the filter and circulates water directly back to the pool. Useful for mixing chemicals without filtering.
  • CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter. Use this setting only when the pump is off and for maintenance tasks like cleaning the strainer basket.

5.2. Digital Control Panel and Timer

The digital panel allows for easy control and programming:

  • ON/OFF: Press to turn the pump on or off.
  • Timer: Use the integrated timer to set automatic operating cycles. Consult the specific instructions in your full manual for detailed programming steps. Typically, you can set the desired operating hours, and the pump will run daily for that duration.
  • FP (Filter Program): This setting allows the pump to run for a continuous period or according to a pre-set program.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your Intex sand filter pump.

  • Backwashing and Rinsing: Perform backwashing and rinsing regularly, especially when the pressure gauge indicates a rise of 8-10 PSI above its clean operating pressure. This cleans the filter media and restores filtration efficiency.
  • Strainer Basket Cleaning: Periodically check and clean the pump's strainer basket. Turn off the pump, close the valve to the CLOSED position, open the strainer lid, remove and clean the basket, then reassemble.
  • Sand/Glass Media Replacement: The filter sand typically needs replacement every 5 years. If using glass filter media, it generally lasts longer, approximately 9 years. Refer to your full manual for specific instructions on media replacement.
  • Winterization: Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the pump and filter tank. Store the unit in a dry, protected area.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your sand filter pump, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not start or has no power. No power supply; tripped GFCI/RCD; damaged power cord/plug.Check power connection; reset GFCI/RCD; inspect power cord for damage. If damaged, contact qualified service personnel.
Low water flow or pressure.Clogged strainer basket; dirty filter media; air in the system; partially closed valves; low pool water level.Clean strainer basket; backwash and rinse filter; bleed air from the system; ensure all valves are fully open; check pool water level.
Water not clearing.Insufficient filtration time; dirty filter media; incorrect chemical balance; wrong filter media type.Increase filtration time; backwash and rinse filter; test and adjust pool chemicals; ensure correct filter media is used.
Leaks around the pump or valve.Loose connections; damaged O-rings/gaskets.Tighten all connections; inspect and replace any damaged O-rings or gaskets.
