Installation Instructions

  1. Power Disconnection: Before starting any electrical work, ensure the main power supply to the circuit is completely disconnected at the consumer unit/circuit breaker. Verify with a voltage tester.
  2. Mounting: Mount the EMN001 switch onto a standard DIN rail within an appropriate enclosure.
  3. Wiring: Refer to the wiring diagram below for correct connections.
    • Connect the Live (L) and Neutral (N) supply wires to the corresponding terminals on the switch.
    • Connect the switched Live output to the lighting circuit.
    • Connect the push-button input (if applicable for staircase lighting) to the designated terminal.
    • Ensure all screw terminals are tightened securely to prevent loose connections.
  4. Cable Specifications: Use flexible cables with a cross-section of 1 to 6 mm² or solid cables with a cross-section of 1.5 to 10 mm².
  5. Power Restoration: Once all connections are secure and verified, restore power to the circuit.

Operating Instructions

Time Delay Adjustment

The time delay can be adjusted using the rotary dial on the front of the device. The range is from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Rotate the dial clockwise to increase the delay time and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Set the desired time according to your application requirements.

Operation Mode Selection

The EMN001 features a two-position switch for selecting the operation mode:

  • Timed Mode (Timer Symbol): In this mode, the lights will switch on when a connected push-button is pressed and will automatically switch off after the preset time delay has elapsed. This is the standard mode for staircase lighting.
  • Permanent ON Mode (Light Bulb Symbol): In this mode, the lights will remain continuously on, bypassing the time delay function. This is useful for extended periods of illumination, such as during cleaning or maintenance.

Pre-warning Function

For enhanced safety, the EMN001 includes a pre-warning function. Before the lights switch off completely, they will briefly dim or flash to alert users that the timed period is about to end, allowing them to reactivate the lights if needed.

Maintenance

The Hager EMN001 time delay switch is designed for maintenance-free operation. However, periodic checks are recommended:

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the device for any signs of damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the exterior of the device with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Functional Check: Occasionally test the time delay function and the permanent ON mode to ensure proper operation.

If any issues are detected, disconnect power immediately and consult a qualified electrician.

Troubleshooting

If you experience problems with your Hager EMN001 switch, refer to the following table:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Lights do not turn on.No power supply, faulty wiring, faulty push-button, or faulty lamp.Check circuit breaker. Verify wiring connections. Test push-button and lamp.
Lights stay on permanently in timed mode.Switch set to permanent ON mode, or a stuck push-button.Ensure the mode switch is set to the timed (timer symbol) position. Check push-buttons for sticking.
Lights turn off too quickly or too slowly.Incorrect time delay setting.Adjust the time delay dial to the desired duration.
