Audio-Technica AT-LP60XUSB Turntable Instruction Manual

Model: AT-LP60XUSB

Introduction

The Audio-Technica AT-LP60XUSB is a fully automatic belt-drive stereo turntable designed for high-fidelity vinyl audio playback and digital conversion. It supports both 33-1/3 and 45 RPM records and features a USB output for direct connection to a computer, allowing users to convert vinyl to digital audio files. The turntable includes a built-in switchable phono preamp, enabling direct connection to home stereo systems, powered speakers, or other components, regardless of whether they have a dedicated phono input. Its redesigned tonearm base and headshell improve tracking and reduce resonance, while an external AC adapter minimizes noise in the signal chain.

1. Platter and Drive Belt Installation

  1. Carefully place the platter onto the spindle, ensuring it is fully seated.
  2. Locate the red ribbon on the platter. This ribbon is used to guide the drive belt.
  3. Rotate the platter by hand until the rectangular opening with the red ribbon exposes the brass motor pulley, located in the upper left-hand corner opposite the tonearm. Do not confuse it with the white plastic post near the tonearm.
  4. While holding the platter steady, remove the tape securing the red ribbon.
  5. Holding both ends of the red ribbon, carefully place the drive belt over the brass motor pulley.
  6. Once the belt is seated in the pulley's groove, carefully remove the ribbon and verify that the belt is not twisted.
  7. Place the felt mat on the platter.
  8. With the tonearm still fastened to its rest, carefully rotate the platter by hand 10 times in a clockwise direction. This ensures the automatic mechanism is fully cycled.

2. Stylus Guard Removal

  • Carefully remove and discard the twist-tie securing the tonearm to its rest.
  • While holding the tonearm, carefully remove the plastic stylus guard by slowly pulling it forward. Be cautious not to damage the exposed stylus.

3. Turntable Placement

For optimal operation, the turntable should be placed on a solid, level surface to prevent vibrations and ensure stable playback.

4. Power Connection

  • Connect the power adapter cable to the DC IN 12V port on the rear of the turntable.
  • Plug the AC power adapter into a convenient wall outlet.

5. Audio Connections

The AT-LP60XUSB offers both USB digital output and analog audio output for versatile connectivity.

  • USB Digital Output: Connect the included USB cable from the turntable's USB port to an open USB port on your Mac or PC computer. This allows for direct digital recording of your vinyl records using third-party recording software like Audacity, without the need for special drivers.
  • Analog Audio Output: The turntable features a built-in switchable phono preamp.
    • If your audio device (amplifier, receiver) has its own built-in RIAA preamp (phono inputs), set the PHONO-LINE selector switch on the rear of the turntable to the PHONO position. This bypasses the turntable's internal phono preamp.
    • If connecting to an "AUX" or line-level input on powered speakers, soundbars, amplifiers, or other devices that do not have a dedicated phono input, set the PHONO-LINE selector switch to the LINE position. This utilizes the turntable's internal RIAA equalized phono preamp.
    • Use the included 3.5 mm male to dual RCA male cable to connect the turntable's analog output to the appropriate RCA-type phono or auxiliary inputs on your amplifier or receiver.

Operating Instructions

1. Playing a Record

  1. Place a record on the platter. If playing a 45 RPM single, place the 45 RPM adapter over the center spindle.
  2. Select the appropriate speed (33-1/3 or 45 RPM) using the speed selector switch.
  3. Press the START button. The tonearm will automatically move to the beginning of the record and begin playback.
  4. To stop playback and return the tonearm to its rest, press the STOP button.
  5. To manually lift the tonearm during playback, press the TONEARM LIFT button. Press it again to lower the tonearm.

2. Dust Cover Usage

The turntable includes a plastic dust cover to protect it from dust and debris when not in use. For best audio results and to prevent potential resonance, it is recommended to remove or open the dust cover when playing records.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Stylus: Use a soft brush to gently clean the stylus in a back-to-front motion. Avoid side-to-side movements.
  • Cleaning the Turntable: Wipe the turntable chassis and dust cover with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Record Care: Keep your records clean and free of dust. Store them vertically in their sleeves to prevent warping.
  • Belt Replacement: The drive belt is a wear item and may need replacement over time if speed inconsistencies occur. Refer to Audio-Technica's support resources for replacement parts and instructions.
