3. Installation

3.1 Mounting the Controller

The ST8I-2.0 is designed for indoor use. Select a location that is protected from the elements and has access to a standard electrical outlet. Use the provided mounting hardware to securely attach the controller to a wall.

A wired rain sensor (sold separately) can be connected to the 'SENS' terminals. The WiFi module connects to the 'ACCESSORY' port.

4. Initial Setup & Connectivity

4.1 Powering On and Basic Settings

Once wired, plug in the transformer. The controller will power on. Use the BACK, DOWN, UP, and NEXT buttons to set the current date and time on the LCD display.

4.2 Connecting to WiFi and the Rain Bird App

The ST8I-2.0 connects to your home WiFi network, enabling remote control via the Rain Bird mobile app. Download the Rain Bird app from your device's app store (compatible with Apple iOS 8 or greater, and Android 4.4 (KitKat) or later).   • SEASONAL ADJUST / DATE-TIME: Adjusts watering duration seasonally or sets the date/time.

5.2 App Control

The Rain Bird app provides comprehensive control and advanced features:

  • Custom Watering Schedules: Set individual watering days (custom days of the week, odd/even calendar days, or cyclic every 1-14 days), up to 6 start times per zone, and run times from 0-199 minutes. Each zone can be named and assigned a picture for easy identification.
  • Automatic Seasonal Adjust: Enable this feature to automatically adjust daily watering schedules based on your specific ZIP Code's season, local weather, temperature, and humidity. This optimizes water usage and plant health.
  • Watering Delay: Suspend watering for 1 to 14 days directly from the app. Programming automatically resumes after the selected delay period.
  • Notifications: Receive alerts on your mobile device regarding program changes, watering delays, seasonal adjustments, WiFi disconnections, valve malfunctions, or potential freeze conditions.
  • Multi-Device Access: Install the app on multiple devices and securely share control with family members or landscapers.
