Setup

Before operating your Yamaha EF2200iS generator, ensure it is placed on a level surface outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from windows and doors. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be fatal. Always operate the generator outdoors.

1. Add Engine Oil

The generator is shipped without engine oil. You must add the specified amount of 10W-30 engine oil before the first use. Locate the oil dipstick cover on the side of the unit, remove it, and fill with oil until the correct level is reached on the dipstick. Securely replace the cover.

2. Add Fuel

Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. The fuel cap is located on the top of the unit. Ensure the fuel cap's on/off switch is set to 'ON' for operation. The generator has a 1.24-gallon tank volume.

3. Initial Start-up

Ensure all switches on the control panel are in the 'OFF' position. Turn the fuel valve to 'ON'. If starting cold, pull out the choke lever. Use the pull cord to start the engine. Once the engine starts, slowly push the choke lever back in.

Operating Instructions

The EF2200iS features an intuitive control panel for easy operation.

Control Panel Overview

The control panel includes AC outlets (120V 15A and 120V 30A RV outlet), a DC 12V 8A battery charging outlet, an illuminated multi-function LED display, and various indicator lights for AC overload, oil pressure, and output. The Smart Dial Knob simplifies start-up.

Smart Throttle and Eco Mode

The Smart Throttle feature automatically adjusts engine speed to match the load, improving fuel efficiency and reducing noise. Engage the 'ECON.SW' switch to activate Eco Mode for quieter operation and extended run times when power demands are low.

Twin Tech Parallel Function

For increased power output, two EF2200iS generators can be connected in parallel using special cables (sold separately). This allows for combined wattage to power larger appliances or multiple devices simultaneously.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your generator.

Oil Level Check

Check the engine oil level before each use. Ensure the generator is on a level surface. Remove the oil dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it without screwing it in, and then remove it again to check the level. Add oil if necessary.

Spark Plug Inspection

Periodically inspect the spark plug for wear and carbon buildup. Replace with the specified spark plug type (BPR6HS/NGK) if needed. The spark plug is located under a cover on the top of the generator.

Fuel System Care

When storing the generator for extended periods, drain the fuel from the carburetor using the carburetor drain cock to prevent fuel degradation issues. Always use fresh fuel.

Troubleshooting

If your generator encounters issues, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips. For detailed diagnostics and repair, consult the full owner's manual or a certified service technician.

  • Engine Not Starting: Check fuel level, ensure fuel cap switch is ON, verify engine switch is ON, check oil level (low oil shutdown), and ensure choke is properly engaged for cold starts.
  • No Power Output: Check for AC overload indicator light. If lit, reduce the load and reset the AC circuit breaker. Ensure the AC output switch is ON.
  • Overload Indicator Lit: This indicates the generator is being overloaded. Disconnect some appliances to reduce the load.
  • Oil Warning Light Lit: This indicates low oil pressure. Stop the engine immediately and add oil to the correct level.
