3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the Telwin Dynamic 520 from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage during transit. Report any damage to your supplier immediately.
3.2 Placement
Place the unit on a stable, level surface. Ensure adequate clearance around the unit for ventilation. The unit dimensions are 365x460x755 mm and it weighs 21 Kg, so consider its size and weight when choosing a location.
3.3 Electrical Connection
Connect the unit to a 230V 50/60Hz 1-phase main voltage supply. Ensure the power outlet is properly grounded and capable of handling the absorbed power of 1.6 kW for charging and 10 kW for starting.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Connecting to the Battery
- Ensure the Telwin Dynamic 520 is disconnected from the main power supply.
- Identify the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on the battery.
- Connect the red (+) clamp from the charger to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
- Connect the black (-) clamp from the charger to the negative (-) terminal of the battery. For vehicles, connect the black clamp to a metal part of the vehicle chassis, away from the battery and fuel line.
- Verify all connections are secure.
4.2 Charging a Battery
The Dynamic 520 supports charging of 12V and 24V WET batteries with a rated reference capacity of 20 to 1000 Ah.
- Select the desired charge voltage (12V or 24V) using the voltage selector switch.
- Choose between "Normal Charge" or "Quick Charge (BOOST)" using the mode selector.
- If using "Quick Charge," you may set the timer for the quick charge duration.
- Connect the unit to the main power supply.
- Monitor the charging current displayed on the unit. The rated charge current is 50A, with a maximum charge current of 75A.
- The unit has 4 adjustment positions for fine-tuning the charging process.
4.3 Quick Start Function
The quick start function provides a high current burst to assist in starting vehicles with discharged batteries.
- Ensure the battery is connected as described in Section 4.1.
- Select the "Quick Start" mode on the unit.
- Connect the unit to the main power supply.
- Attempt to start the vehicle. Do not crank the engine for more than 5 seconds at a time, and allow a 1-minute cool-down period between attempts.
- Monitor the starting current displayed on the unit. The starting peak current is 400A, with a rated starting current of 300A.
- Once the vehicle starts, disconnect the unit from the main power supply, then disconnect the clamps from the vehicle/battery in reverse order of connection.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Telwin Dynamic 520.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the unit from power before cleaning. Use a dry, soft cloth to wipe down the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the unit in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Ensure cables are neatly coiled to prevent damage.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord and battery clamps for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage. Replace damaged components immediately.
- Internal Protection: The unit features built-in protection against overloads and polarity reversal, minimizing the risk of internal damage from common operational errors.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Telwin Dynamic 520.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Unit does not power on. | No main power supply; faulty power cord; internal fuse. | Check power outlet and cord. Consult a qualified technician if the issue persists. |
| Battery not charging. | Incorrect battery connection (polarity reversal); battery deeply discharged; incorrect voltage selection; overload protection activated. | Verify correct polarity. Ensure battery is not excessively discharged. Select correct 12V/24V setting. Allow unit to cool if overload protection is active. |
| Vehicle not starting with Quick Start. | Battery too weak; poor connections; engine issues unrelated to battery. | Ensure strong, clean connections. Allow battery to charge for a few minutes before attempting start. Consult vehicle mechanic if engine issues are suspected. |
| Overload protection activates frequently. | Attempting to charge/start a battery too large for the unit; short circuit in connections. | Ensure battery capacity is within the unit's rated reference capacity (20-1000 Ah). Check for short circuits. |
