  • Breast Shield: The part that comes into contact with the breast, designed for comfort and effective suction. Features a wide and double curved design with a soft silicone cushion.
  • Pump Body: Connects the breast shield to the milk collection bottle and houses the valve system.
  • Handle: Ergonomically designed lever for manual operation, allowing for rhythmic expression. Features 100-degree rotation for ease of use.
  • Milk Collection Bottle: Collects expressed breast milk. Features measurement markings.
  • Valve/Diaphragm: Essential for creating and maintaining suction.

Setup and Assembly

Before first use, and after each use, disassemble, clean, and sterilize all parts that come into contact with breast milk.

  1. Clean and Sterilize: Wash all components (breast shield, pump body, valve, bottle) in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Sterilize by boiling for 5 minutes or using a steam sterilizer. Allow to air dry completely on a clean surface.
  2. Assemble Valve: Ensure the valve is securely attached to the pump body.
  3. Attach Breast Shield: Firmly connect the breast shield to the pump body.
  4. Attach Handle: Securely attach the handle to the pump body.
  5. Connect Bottle: Screw the milk collection bottle onto the bottom of the pump body until secure.

Your Spectrum Manual Breast Pump PM-012 is now ready for use.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for effective milk expression:

  1. Prepare for Pumping: Find a comfortable and private place. Relax. Having a warm compress on your breast or gently massaging it before pumping can help stimulate milk flow.
  2. Position Breast Shield: Center the breast shield over your nipple. Ensure a good seal around your breast to create effective suction.
  3. Initiate Suction: Gently press the handle to create suction. You should feel a gentle pull on your nipple.
  4. Establish Rhythm: Release the handle to break the suction. Repeat this pressing and releasing motion rhythmically, mimicking a baby's sucking pattern. Start with short, rapid pumps to stimulate let-down, then transition to slower, deeper pumps once milk begins to flow.
  5. Adjust Comfort: The 100-degree rotating handle allows you to adjust the pumping angle for optimal comfort and efficiency.
  6. Monitor Milk Flow: Milk will collect in the attached bottle. Continue pumping until milk flow slows or stops, or until your breast feels empty.
  7. Switch Sides (Optional): If pumping from both breasts, switch to the other breast when milk flow slows.
  8. Finish Pumping: Once finished, carefully remove the breast pump from your breast.

Important: Do not overfill the milk collection bottle. Transfer expressed milk to a suitable storage container immediately after pumping.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for hygiene and longevity of your breast pump.

After Each Use:

  1. Disassemble: Separate all parts that came into contact with breast milk (breast shield, pump body, valve, bottle).
  2. Rinse: Rinse all disassembled parts under cold running water to remove milk residue.
  3. Wash: Wash parts in warm soapy water using a clean brush dedicated for feeding equipment. Ensure all milk residue is removed.
  4. Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse all parts thoroughly under clean running water.
  5. Sterilize: Sterilize parts by boiling for 5 minutes in water or using a suitable steam sterilizer. The pump is dishwasher safe, so parts can also be cleaned on the top rack of a dishwasher.
  6. Dry: Place cleaned and sterilized parts on a clean drying rack or paper towel to air dry completely. Do not use a cloth towel as it may transfer germs.
  7. Store: Once completely dry, store assembled or disassembled parts in a clean, dry place until next use.

General Maintenance:

  • Regularly inspect silicone parts (e.g., breast cushion, valve) for tears, discoloration, or loss of elasticity. Replace if damaged to maintain optimal performance.
  • Do not expose the pump to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
