3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Battery Installation
Both the KPM-35 and KLS-35 units are battery-powered. Locate the battery compartment on the back of each device. Insert the required batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the battery compartment securely.
3.2 Connecting Fiber Optic Cables
- Clean Connectors: Before connecting any fiber optic cable, ensure that the fiber end-faces and the device's optical ports are clean. Use appropriate fiber optic cleaning tools.
- KPM-35 Power Meter: Connect the fiber optic cable from the source you wish to measure to the 2.5mm universal SC connector port on the top of the KPM-35.
- KLS-35 Light Source: Connect the fiber optic cable to the FC/SC connector port on the top of the KLS-35. This cable will then be connected to the system or device under test.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 KPM-35 Optical Power Meter Operation
- Power On: Press and hold the power button (labeled with a power symbol) to turn on the KPM-35.
- Select Wavelength: Press the wavelength button (labeled with λ) to cycle through the available wavelengths (850, 980, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550, 1625nm) until the desired wavelength is displayed.
- Measure Power: Once the fiber is connected and the correct wavelength is selected, the optical power will be displayed on the screen in dBm.
- Set Reference (REF): To measure relative loss (dB), press the REF/dB button. Connect the fiber directly from the light source to the power meter, set the reference power, then connect the fiber through the system under test to measure loss.
- Backlight: Press the light bulb button (labeled with a light bulb symbol) to toggle the display backlight.
- Power Off: Press and hold the power button (labeled with a power symbol) to turn off the KPM-35.
