4. Operating Instructions

Figure 2: Detailed view of the Sndway SW-M100 display and button functions. This diagram labels the various indicators and controls on the device.
4.1 Basic Measurement (Distance)
- Point the laser at the target.
- Press the READ button once to activate the laser.
- Press the READ button again to take a measurement. The measured distance will appear on the main display.
4.2 Measurement Modes
Press the Area / Volume / Triangle Mode button (often labeled with a square/cube icon) to cycle through different measurement modes:
- Single Distance Measurement: Default mode.
- Area Measurement: Measure two sides (length and width) and the device will automatically calculate the area.
- Volume Measurement: Measure three sides (length, width, height) and the device will automatically calculate the volume.
- Pythagorean Measurement (Indirect): Use this mode to measure inaccessible heights or distances by taking two or three measurements (e.g., hypotenuse and one leg).
4.3 Continuous Measurement (Min/Max Tracking)
In continuous measurement mode, the device constantly updates the distance as you move it. It also tracks the minimum and maximum distances measured during the session.
- From single distance mode, press and hold the READ button.
- Move the device slowly. The display will show real-time measurements, along with the minimum and maximum values recorded.
- Press READ again to stop continuous measurement.
4.4 Addition and Subtraction of Measurements
The device allows you to add or subtract measurements.
- Take a measurement.
- Press the + button for addition or the - button for subtraction.
- Take the next measurement. The device will automatically perform the calculation.
4.5 Unit Switching
To switch between measurement units (meters, inches, feet), press the Measuring reference / unit selection button (often labeled "UNIT" or with unit symbols).
4.6 Data Storage (Memory)
The device can store up to 99 data records.
- After taking a measurement, press the Memory button (often labeled with a save icon or "MEM") to save the current reading.
- To recall stored data, press the Memory button repeatedly to scroll through records.
4.7 Clearing Measurements
To clear the current measurement or exit a mode, press the OFF/CLEAR button.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
- Laser Lens: Keep the laser emission and reception lenses clean for accurate measurements. Use a soft cloth, similar to those used for camera lenses.
- Avoid Impact: Protect the device from drops and strong impacts.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Batteries are dead or incorrectly installed. | Replace batteries with new 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Inaccurate measurements. | Dirty laser lens, unstable measurement surface, or extreme environmental conditions. | Clean the laser lens. Ensure a stable measurement surface. Avoid measuring in direct sunlight or highly reflective surfaces without a target plate. |
| "Error" message on display. | Measurement out of range, laser beam obstructed, or internal error. | Ensure target is within 0.05m to 100m range. Check for obstructions. Restart the device. If error persists, contact support. |
| Low battery indicator. | Batteries are running low. | Replace batteries immediately to ensure continued accurate operation. |
