3. Setup and Installation

The Cumbor Baby Gate offers two installation methods: Pressure Mounted and Hardware Mounted. Choose the method that best suits your needs and location.

3.1 Pressure Mounted Installation (No Tools Required)

This method is ideal for hallways and doorways where drilling is not desired. It provides a secure fit without damaging walls.

  1. Unpack and Assemble: Remove all components from the packaging. The gate may appear bent or have a gap at the latch initially; this is normal and will be resolved upon tightening.
  2. Insert Tension Bolts: Insert the four tension bolts into the holes at each corner of the gate frame.
  3. Position Gate: Place the gate in the desired opening. Ensure the bottom bar is flush with the floor or step.
  4. Tighten Tension Bolts: Rotate the adjustment wheels on the tension bolts clockwise until the gate is securely held in place. Tighten evenly on all four sides. The gap at the latch will gradually close as you tighten.
  5. Remove Zip Tie: Once the gate is firmly secured and the latch gap is closed, carefully cut and remove the zip tie that holds the gate door in place during shipping.
  6. Install Accessible Ramp (Optional): If desired, attach the accessible ramp to the bottom bar of the gate as per the separate ramp instructions.
  7. Install Y Pressure Mount (Optional for Rounded Banisters): If installing on a rounded banister, replace the standard tension bolt cups with the Y pressure mount adapters. Rotate to secure.

3.2 Hardware Mounted Installation (Tools Required)

This method provides maximum stability and is recommended for high-traffic areas like staircases.

  1. Mark Wall Positions: Place the gate in the desired location. Use a pencil to mark the positions for the wall cups where the tension bolts will connect.
  2. Install Wall Anchors: Using a drill, create pilot holes at the marked positions. Insert the provided wall anchors into the holes and gently tap them flush with a hammer.
  3. Attach Wall Cups: Secure the wall cups to the wall using screws and a screwdriver or drill.
  4. Insert and Tighten Tension Bolts: Insert the four tension bolts into the gate frame and place the gate into the wall cups. Rotate the adjustment wheels on the tension bolts clockwise until the gate is firmly secured.
  5. Remove Zip Tie: Once the gate is firmly secured and the latch gap is closed, carefully cut and remove the zip tie that holds the gate door in place during shipping.
