2. Safety Information

4. Setup

4.1. Front Panel Controls

4.2. Rear Panel Connections

Before making any connections, ensure the receiver is powered off and unplugged from the AC outlet.

4.2.1. Speaker Connections

Connect your speakers to the SPEAKER A or SPEAKER B terminals on the rear panel. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for each speaker. The R-S202BL supports two speaker systems (A and B) which can be used individually or simultaneously.

  • Speaker A/B: Connect your main speakers to the SPEAKER A terminals. If you have a second pair of speakers, connect them to the SPEAKER B terminals.
  • Wire Gauge: Use appropriate speaker wire gauge for optimal sound quality.

4.2.2. Audio Input Connections (RCA)

Connect your audio sources (CD player, TV, etc.) to the RCA input jacks (CD, LINE 1, LINE 2, LINE 3) on the rear panel. Match the red (right) and white (left) connectors.

  • CD Input: For connecting a CD player.
  • LINE 1-3 Inputs: For connecting other audio devices such as a TV, cassette deck, or media player.

4.2.3. Turntable Connection

If connecting a turntable, it must have a built-in phono pre-amplifier or you will need an external phono pre-amplifier. Connect the turntable's output to one of the LINE inputs (e.g., LINE 1) on the receiver.

4.2.4. Antenna Connections

Connect the supplied FM and AM antennas to their respective terminals for radio reception.

  • FM Antenna: Connect the FM antenna to the FM UNBAL 75Ω terminal. Extend the wire for better reception.
  • AM Antenna: Assemble and connect the AM loop antenna to the AM terminals. Position it for optimal reception.

4.3. Power Connection

After all audio and speaker connections are made, plug the receiver's power cord into a standard AC wall outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: Press the POWER button on the front panel or the remote control to turn the unit on or off.
  • Volume Control: Rotate the large VOLUME knob on the front panel or use the VOLUME +/- buttons on the remote control to adjust the sound level.

5.2. Input Selection

Press the desired input selector button (CD, LINE 1, LINE 2, LINE 3, FM, AM, BLUETOOTH) on the front panel or remote control to switch between connected audio sources.

5.3. Bluetooth Connectivity

The R-S202BL allows you to stream audio wirelessly from Bluetooth-enabled devices.

  1. Press the BLUETOOTH input selector button on the front panel or remote. The Bluetooth indicator on the display will flash.
  2. On your Bluetooth device (e.g., smartphone), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
  3. Select "Yamaha R-S202" from the list of devices.
  4. Once paired, the Bluetooth indicator will stop flashing and remain lit. You can now play audio from your device through the receiver.

5.4. Tuner Operation (FM/AM)

  • Selecting Band: Press the FM/AM button to switch between FM and AM radio bands.
  • Tuning: Use the TUNING +/- buttons to manually tune to a station. For automatic tuning, press and hold the TUNING +/- button until the receiver starts scanning.
  • Preset Tuning: Store your favorite stations by tuning to a station, then pressing MEMORY followed by a preset number button. Recall stored stations using the PRESET +/- buttons. The receiver supports 40 station FM/AM preset tuning.

5.5. Speaker Selector

Use the SPEAKERS A/B buttons on the front panel to select which speaker system(s) are active:

  • A: Only Speaker System A is active.
  • B: Only Speaker System B is active.
  • A+B: Both Speaker Systems A and B are active.

5.6. Tone Controls

Adjust the sound characteristics using the BASS and TREBLE knobs on the front panel to suit your preference.

5.7. Headphone Output

Connect headphones to the 1/4'' PHONES jack on the front panel for private listening. Connecting headphones will mute the main speaker outputs.

5.8. Remote Control

6. Maintenance
