1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your VOLTCRAFT VC-310 Digital Clamp Meter. This ultra-compact device is designed for non-contact measurement of alternating current, offering ergonomic design and reliable performance. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and keep it for future reference.
2. Safety Instructions
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or personal injury.
- Always adhere to local and national safety regulations.
- Do not use the device if it appears damaged or if the insulation is compromised.
- Ensure the measurement category (CAT II 600V, CAT III 300V) is appropriate for the circuit being tested. Do not exceed the specified voltage limits.
- Avoid contact with live circuits. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Do not operate the device in wet conditions or in explosive atmospheres.
- Before each use, inspect the clamp meter for any signs of damage.
- Servicing should only be performed by qualified personnel.

4. Setup
The VOLTCRAFT VC-310 is designed for immediate use. Please ensure the device is in good condition before operation.
4.1. Battery Installation (If Applicable)
While the product specifications indicate batteries are not required, digital displays typically need power. If your device requires batteries, locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit. Open it, insert the correct type and number of batteries (e.g., AAA or AA, typically 2x), observing polarity. Close the compartment securely. Refer to the device markings for specific battery requirements.
4.2. Initial Inspection
Before first use, visually inspect the clamp meter for any physical damage, cracks in the casing, or loose parts. Ensure the clamp jaws open and close smoothly.
5. Operating Instructions
The VOLTCRAFT VC-310 is primarily used for non-contact measurement of alternating current (AC).
5.1. Measuring AC Current
- Power On: Rotate the function/range selector dial from "OFF" to the desired AC current range (2A~, 20A~, or 200A~). If the current value is unknown, start with the highest range (200A~) and decrease if necessary for better resolution.
- Open Jaws: Press the trigger to open the clamp jaws.
- Clamp Around Conductor: Carefully position the clamp jaws around a single conductor (wire) through which the AC current flows. Ensure the jaws are fully closed around the conductor. Do not clamp around multiple conductors, as this will result in an inaccurate reading (the magnetic fields will cancel each other out).
- Read Measurement: The AC current value will be displayed on the LCD.
- HOLD Function: Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release.
- MAXH Function: Press the MAXH button to capture and display the maximum measured value. Press it again to exit MAXH mode.
- Backlight: Press the backlight button (often indicated by a light bulb icon) to illuminate the display in low-light conditions.
- Power Off: After measurement, rotate the function/range selector dial back to the "OFF" position to conserve power.
Important: For accurate non-contact current measurement, the clamp jaws must enclose only one conductor. Measuring around a power cord containing both live and neutral wires will result in a near-zero reading due to opposing magnetic fields.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning
Wipe the device regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no moisture enters the device.
6.2. Storage
When not in use for extended periods, store the clamp meter in a dry, dust-free environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If applicable, remove batteries before long-term storage.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display or faint display | Low or dead batteries (if applicable) | Replace batteries. |
| Inaccurate reading | Clamp jaws not fully closed; multiple conductors inside jaws; incorrect range selected; external magnetic interference. | Ensure jaws are closed around a single conductor. Select appropriate range. Move away from strong magnetic fields. |
| "OL" or "OVER" displayed | Measurement exceeds selected range. | Select a higher measurement range. |
| Device does not turn on | Function dial not set correctly; batteries dead/missing (if applicable). | Ensure dial is on a measurement function. Check/replace batteries. |
