The NEC DT300 Series DTL-8LD-1 Office Phone consists of a main base unit, a handset, and a coiled handset cord. 3. Setup

3.1 Connecting the Handset

  1. Locate the coiled handset cord.
  2. Plug one end of the coiled cord into the jack on the side of the handset.
  3. Plug the other end of the coiled cord into the designated handset jack on the left side of the phone base unit. Ensure both connections are secure.

3.2 Connecting the Line Cord

  1. Locate the telephone line cord.
  2. Plug one end of the line cord into the LINE jack on the back of the phone base unit.
  3. Plug the other end of the line cord into a standard telephone wall jack (RJ-11).

3.3 Connecting Power (if applicable)

The phone typically draws power from the telephone line. If your specific setup requires an external DC power adapter (not always included or necessary for basic operation), connect it to the DC power input jack on the back of the phone and then to a power outlet.

3.4 Adjusting the Base

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Making a Call

  1. Lift the handset or press the Speaker button to activate the speakerphone.
  2. Dial the desired telephone number using the keypad.
  3. The call will connect once the number is dialed.

4.2 Answering a Call

  1. When the phone rings, lift the handset or press the Speaker button to answer.

4.3 Using the Speakerphone

  1. To initiate a call using the speakerphone, press the Speaker button, then dial the number.
  2. To switch an active call from the handset to speakerphone, press the Speaker button and then place the handset back in its cradle.
  3. To switch from speakerphone to handset, simply lift the handset.

4.4 Using Line Keys

The 8 line keys allow you to access different telephone lines or programmed features. The red and green indicators show the status of each line (e.g., in use, on hold, ringing).

  • Press an unlit line key to select an available line for making a call.
  • Press a flashing line key to answer an incoming call on that line.
  • Press a lit line key to place an active call on hold (if programmed).

4.5 Using Soft Keys

The 4 soft keys (Help, Exit, and two context-sensitive keys) located below the LCD screens change their function based on the current menu or call state. The labels for these functions will appear on the lower LCD screen directly above the keys.

  • Press Help for on-screen assistance or information.
  • Press Exit to return to the previous menu or the idle screen.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts for the other two soft keys.

4.6 Navigating LCD Screens and Cursor Keys

The two 168 x 55 dot matrix backlit LCDs display call information, menus, and line status. Use the cursor keys (up, down, left, right) to navigate through menu options and lists. The scroll key allows you to cycle through the four pages of eight lines displayed by the DESI-less line keys.

4.7 Caller ID

When an incoming call is received, the caller's information (if available) will be displayed on the LCD screen.
