1. Introduction
The Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener is designed to enhance the safety of your home by integrating your existing smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors with your Ring Alarm system. This device listens for the specific alarm patterns of your current smoke and CO detectors and, upon detection, sends notifications to your mobile device via the Ring app. It requires a Ring Alarm Security System and a Ring Protect subscription for full functionality.
Important: This device is a listener only. It does not detect smoke, fire, or carbon monoxide itself. It relies entirely on the proper functioning of your existing smoke and CO detectors.

2. Safety Information
- Ensure your existing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are fully functional, regularly tested, and meet all applicable safety standards.
- The Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener is not a substitute for functional smoke and CO detectors. It is an enhancement to provide remote notifications.
- For optimal performance, use with smoke and CO detectors that are 10 years old or less.
- Regularly test the Listener and your existing detectors as per their respective manuals.
- Do not place the Listener in areas with excessive noise that could interfere with its ability to detect alarm sounds.
3. Package Contents
Your Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener package should contain the following items:
- Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener device
- Mounting hardware (screws and anchors)
- User Manual (this document)
4. Setup
4.1. Requirements

4.2. Installation Steps
- Open the Ring App: Launch the Ring app on your mobile device.
- Add Device: Tap on the menu icon (three lines) in the top left corner, then select "Set Up a Device." Choose "Security Devices" and then "Listeners." Follow the in-app instructions to scan the QR code on your Listener or manually enter the 5-digit PIN.
- Pair with Base Station: The app will guide you through the process of pairing the Listener with your Ring Alarm Base Station. Ensure your Base Station is powered on and within range.
- Choose Location: Select the room where you intend to install the Listener.
- Mount the Listener:
- Identify the location of your existing smoke or CO detector.
- The Listener must be mounted within 6 inches (15 cm) of your existing detector to effectively hear its alarm.
- Use the provided mounting hardware to secure the Listener to a wall or ceiling near the detector. Ensure it has a clear line of sight to the detector's speaker.
- Test the Listener: Once mounted, the app will prompt you to test the Listener. Activate your existing smoke or CO detector's test button. The Listener should detect the alarm sound, and the app will confirm successful detection.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. How it Works
The Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener continuously monitors for the distinct alarm patterns (T3 for smoke, T4 for CO) emitted by standard smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. When these patterns are detected, the Listener sends a signal to your Ring Alarm Base Station, which then triggers an alert in your Ring app. With a Ring Protect subscription, you will receive mobile notifications and, if applicable, professional monitoring services will be alerted.
5.2. Notifications
Upon detecting an alarm from your existing smoke or CO detector, the Ring app will send a push notification to your smartphone or tablet. Ensure your app notifications are enabled for Ring to receive these alerts promptly.
5.3. Testing the Listener
It is recommended to test your Listener periodically, at least once a month, and after any battery replacement or system changes. To test:
- Open the Ring app and navigate to your Listener's device settings.
- Follow the in-app instructions to initiate a test.
- Press and hold the test button on your existing smoke or CO detector until its alarm sounds.
- The Ring app should confirm that the Listener detected the alarm.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Battery Replacement
The Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener is powered by replaceable batteries, which have a maximum life of 3 years. The Ring app will notify you when the battery level is low. To replace the batteries:
- Carefully remove the Listener from its mounting bracket.
- Open the battery compartment.
- Remove the old batteries and dispose of them according to local regulations.
- Insert new batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the battery compartment and reattach the Listener to its mounting bracket.
- Test the Listener after battery replacement to ensure proper function.
6.2. Cleaning
Clean the exterior of the Listener with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as these can damage the device.
7. Troubleshooting
- Listener Not Pairing:
- Ensure your Ring Alarm Base Station is powered on and within range.
- Check the batteries in the Listener.
- Try resetting the Listener (refer to Ring app for specific instructions).
- No Notifications When Detector Alarms:
- Verify the Listener is mounted within 6 inches of the existing detector.
- Confirm your existing smoke/CO detector is functioning correctly by testing it.
- Check the Listener's battery level in the Ring app.
- Ensure your Ring Protect subscription is active.
- Verify Ring app notifications are enabled on your mobile device.
- Perform a test of the Listener as described in Section 5.3.
- False Alarms:
- Ensure the Listener is not placed in an area with consistent loud noises that could mimic alarm patterns.
- Check if your existing smoke/CO detector is malfunctioning or producing false alarms.
