5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your solar charge controller:

  1. Prepare Components: Ensure you have your solar panel, battery (12V/24V lead-acid: OPEN, AGM, or GEL), and appropriate cables.
  2. Connect Battery First: Connect the battery to the charge controller's battery terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). The controller will detect the battery voltage (12V or 24V).
  3. Connect Solar Panel: Connect the solar panel to the charge controller's solar panel terminals. Ensure correct polarity. The controller will begin charging the battery.
  4. Connect Load (Optional): If you have a DC load, connect it to the load terminals on the controller. Ensure correct polarity.
  5. Verify Connections: Double-check all connections for tightness and correct polarity before powering on the system. Loose connections can cause damage.

Important Considerations:

  • Install the controller in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Ensure battery cables are as short as possible to minimize voltage drop.
  • Do not connect any other charging source (e.g., AC charger, generator) directly to the controller's solar input terminals.

6. Operating Instructions

The Walfront Solar Charge Controller features an intuitive LCD display and control buttons for easy operation.

6.1. LCD Display

The LCD displays real-time system status, including battery voltage, charging current, discharge current, and various parameter settings. The backlight ensures visibility in low-light conditions.

6.2. Button Functions

  • MENU Button: Press to cycle through different display modes and enter parameter setting mode.
  • UP Button: Used to increase values or navigate up in menus.
  • DOWN Button: Used to decrease values or navigate down in menus.

6.3. Parameter Adjustment

To adjust parameters such as Floating Charge Voltage, Discharge Stop Voltage, and Discharge Reconnect Voltage:

  1. Press the MENU button until you reach the desired parameter setting.
  2. Long-press the MENU button until the displayed value starts flashing.
  3. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to adjust the value.
  4. Press the MENU button again to confirm the setting and exit the adjustment mode.

Remember that all red voltage values displayed are for a 12V system. If you are using a 24V system, these values should be doubled for accurate interpretation and setting.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your solar charge controller.

  • Cleanliness: Keep the controller clean and free from dust and debris. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the installation area remains well-ventilated to prevent overheating, especially during periods of high current flow.
  • Connection Checks: Periodically inspect all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Loose connections can lead to power loss or damage.
  • Environmental Conditions: While designed for various environments, avoid exposing the controller to extreme temperatures or direct water contact.
