5. Setup

5.1 Filter Placement

Position the filter on a stable, level surface below the aquarium's water level. This ensures proper gravity-fed water intake and efficient operation.

5.2 Installing Filter Media

The BioMaster Thermo 600 utilizes a 4-stage filtration system. Follow these steps to install the media:

  1. Open the filter unit by releasing the safety locks and removing the motor head.
  2. Remove the EasyClean Pre-filter module from the top.
  3. Insert the provided filter media into the designated baskets. The order typically involves coarser mechanical filtration at the bottom, followed by biological media (Hel-X Biomedia), and then finer mechanical/chemical filtration. Refer to the diagram for optimal placement.
  4. Ensure the Hel-X Biomedia is placed in the appropriate basket to maximize beneficial bacteria colonization.
  5. Reinsert the filter baskets and the EasyClean Pre-filter module.
  6. Securely reattach the motor head and engage the safety locks.

5.3 Integrated Heater Installation

The BioMaster Thermo 600 includes an integrated heater for precise temperature control.

  2. Carefully insert the heater into its designated slot.
  3. Connect the heater's power cord.
  4. Adjust the temperature using the control knob on the heater, typically between 66°F and 90°F. Fine-tuning within +/- 2°F is possible.

5.4 Connecting Hoses and Priming

Connect the intake and outlet tubing to the filter and the aquarium. Ensure all connections are tight. Use the aquastop feature to prevent spills. Once connected, use the priming button to fill the filter with water from the aquarium.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Starting the Filter

After successful priming, connect the filter's power cord to an electrical outlet. The filter will begin circulating water.

6.2 Adjusting Water Flow

The inlet and outlet adapters feature flow control. Adjust these to achieve the desired water circulation rate for your aquarium.

6.3 Temperature Control

The integrated heater maintains a stable water temperature. Monitor the aquarium temperature with a separate thermometer and adjust the heater's setting as needed. The heater uses bi-metal technology with a thermal shutoff for safety.

7. Maintenance

7.1 EasyClean Pre-filter Module

The EasyClean Pre-filter module allows for quick and convenient cleaning without disassembling the entire filter.

  1. Disconnect the filter from the power supply.
  2. Unlock and remove the EasyClean Pre-filter module from the top of the filter unit.
  3. Rinse the pre-filter foams under lukewarm tap water until clean. Do not use hot water or detergents.
  4. Reinsert the cleaned pre-filter module and secure it.
  5. Reconnect the filter to the power supply.

7.2 Full Filter Cleaning (Aquastop Feature)

For thorough cleaning of all filter media, the aquastop feature allows for easy disconnection without water leakage.

  1. Disconnect the filter from the power supply.
  2. Engage the aquastop lever to stop water flow and detach the hose adapter unit. This allows the filter to be moved freely without affecting the tubing setup.
  3. Transport the filter to a suitable cleaning area.
  4. Open the filter unit and remove the media baskets.
  5. Clean all filter media and the interior of the filter housing. Rinse biological media with old aquarium water to preserve beneficial bacteria.
  6. Reassemble the filter, ensuring all media is correctly placed and the unit is securely sealed.
  7. Reconnect the hose adapter unit and disengage the aquastop lever.
  8. Prime the filter and reconnect to power.
