Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for brewing delicious coffee with your Woodneck Drip Pot:

  1. Heat Water: Heat fresh water to approximately 200-205°F (93-96°C).
  2. Wet Filter: Place the flannel filter into the glass pot. Pour a small amount of hot water over the filter to pre-heat it and remove any residual fabric taste. Discard this water.
  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Add your desired amount of medium-fine ground coffee into the flannel filter. A good starting point is about 26 grams (approximately a small handful) for 480cc of water, or enough to fill the filter about 1 inch from the top. The grind size should be larger than espresso but finer than French press.
  4. First Pour (Bloom): Slowly pour a small amount of hot water (just enough to saturate the grounds) over the coffee grounds. Allow the coffee to "bloom" for about 30 seconds. This allows gases to escape, leading to a better extraction.
  5. Second Pour (Brew): Continue pouring the remaining hot water slowly and steadily in a circular motion, ensuring all grounds are evenly saturated. Pour until you have reached your desired volume, typically filling the pot to its capacity.
  6. Serve: Once all the water has dripped through the filter, remove the filter assembly. Your freshly brewed coffee is ready to serve directly from the glass pot.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your coffee maker.

Cleaning the Glass Pot:

  • After each use, rinse the glass pot with warm water.
  • For thorough cleaning, use a mild dish soap and a soft sponge or brush.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
  • The glass pot is dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended to preserve the woodneck.

Cleaning the Flannel Filter:

  • Immediately after brewing, discard the coffee grounds from the filter.
  • Rinse the flannel filter thoroughly under running water until all coffee residues are removed. Do not use soap on the filter, as it can leave a residue that affects coffee taste.
  • To prevent the filter from drying out and developing off-flavors, store it submerged in a container of clean water in the refrigerator between uses. Change the water daily.
  • Replace the flannel filter every 1.5 to 2 months with daily use, or when you notice a change in coffee taste or flow rate, as coffee oils can build up over time.

Care for Wood and Leather Components:

  • The woodneck and leather rope should not be submerged in water for extended periods.
  • Wipe them clean with a damp cloth if necessary and dry immediately.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on these parts.
