5. Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your Magnadyne speakers:

5.1 Tools Required:

  • Drill with appropriate drill bits
  • Screwdriver (Phillips head recommended)
  • Wire strippers/crimpers
  • Heat gun (optional, for silicone removal)
  • Plastic razor blade (optional, for silicone removal)
  • Marine-grade sealant/silicone
  • Measuring tape and marker

5.2 Mounting Instructions:

  1. Choose Location: Select a flat, stable surface for mounting. Ensure there is enough space behind the mounting surface for wiring. Refer to the technical drawing for speaker dimensions (6.5" H x 4.375" W x 2" D).
  2. Mark Holes: Use the speaker as a template to mark the positions for the mounting screws and the central wire access hole.
  3. Drill Holes: Carefully drill pilot holes for the mounting screws and a larger hole (approximately 3/4" to 1") for the wiring to pass through.
  4. Prepare Surface: Clean the mounting surface thoroughly. If replacing old speakers, remove any old sealant. A heat gun and plastic razor blade can assist in removing stubborn silicone residue.

5.3 Wiring Instructions:

The speakers come with pre-labeled wires for easy connection:

  • LED 12V+: Red wire (for LED positive power)
  • LED Ground: Black wire (for LED negative/ground)
  • Speaker +: White wire (for speaker positive audio signal)
  • Speaker -: Gray wire (for speaker negative audio signal)
  1. Connect Speaker Wires: Connect the speaker positive (white) and negative (gray) wires to your audio system's corresponding speaker outputs. Ensure correct polarity for optimal sound.
  2. Connect LED Wires: Connect the LED 12V+ (red) wire to a switched 12V power source and the LED Ground (black) wire to a suitable ground point. This allows you to control the LED lights independently.
  3. Secure Connections: Use appropriate marine-grade connectors (e.g., heat-shrink butt connectors) to ensure secure and water-resistant electrical connections.

5.4 Final Mounting:

  1. Apply Sealant: Apply a bead of marine-grade sealant around the wire access hole and the perimeter of the speaker's mounting surface to create a watertight seal.
  2. Mount Speaker: Carefully feed the wires through the access hole and align the speaker with the pilot holes. Secure the speaker using appropriate screws. Do not overtighten.
  3. Test: Once mounted and wired, test both the speaker audio and the LED lighting functionality.

6. Operation

6.1 Audio Playback:

Once properly installed and connected to your audio system, the speakers will play audio when the system is turned on. Adjust volume and audio settings via your primary audio unit.

6.2 LED Lighting:

The integrated LED lights operate independently of the speaker audio. If wired to a separate switch, activate the switch to turn the LED lights on or off. The LED lights provide ambient illumination.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Magnadyne speakers:

  • Cleaning: Clean the speaker grilles and housing periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or water-resistant properties.
  • Sealant Inspection: Regularly inspect the sealant around the speakers for cracks or deterioration. Reapply marine-grade sealant as needed to maintain water resistance.
  • Wiring Inspection: Periodically check all wiring connections for corrosion or looseness. Secure or replace any compromised connections.
  • UV Protection: While UV-resistant, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can still affect the material over many years. Consider covering the speakers when not in use for extended periods in harsh sun.
