For Mac OS (10.8+) and Linux (kernel 3.13+):
A lite version of the software is available for Mac and Linux, providing basic functionality for capturing photos and videos, along with color-correction and measurement tools. Please refer to the AmScope website for the latest software downloads for these operating systems.
For Android Devices:
An OTG micro-USB or USB-C adapter (not provided) can be used to connect the microscope to OTG-compatible smartphones and tablets. This allows for a fully-portable digital-microscopy system. Compatible third-party applications may be required.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Adjusting Magnification and Focus
The microscope offers up to 200X magnification. To adjust the magnification, move the microscope closer to or further away from the object. Use the focus wheel on the microscope body to achieve a clear image on your computer screen.
4.2 Using the LED Illumination
The eight built-in LEDs provide ample lighting for your observations. The brightness of the LEDs can be adjusted using the control wheel on the microscope cable. Ensure adequate lighting for optimal image clarity.
4.3 Capturing Images and Videos
With the AmScope software (or compatible third-party applications), you can capture still images and record video files.
- Still Images: Click the 'Snap' button on the microscope body or use the capture function within the software to take a still photograph.
- Video Recording: Use the software's recording function to start and stop video capture.
The software for Windows provides additional features such as time-lapse capture, exposure control, color adjustment, dark-field correction, and measurement tools (lines, arcs, polygons). It also supports image stitching and extended depth-of-field functions.

5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your AmScope digital microscope.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the microscope and stand. For the lens, use a lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: When not in use, store the microscope in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is recommended to keep it in its original packaging or a protective case to prevent dust accumulation and damage.
- Handling: Always handle the microscope with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your AmScope digital microscope, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No image on screen / Microscope not detected | USB connection issue; Driver not installed or corrupted; Software not running. | Ensure USB cable is securely connected to both microscope and computer. Try a different USB port. Reinstall the software/drivers. Restart your computer. |
| Image is blurry or out of focus | Incorrect focus adjustment; Object too far/close; Lens dirty. | Adjust the focus wheel. Adjust the distance between the microscope lens and the object. Clean the lens carefully. |
| Image is too dark or too bright | LED brightness setting; Software exposure settings. | Adjust the LED brightness control wheel on the cable. Adjust exposure settings within the software. |
| Software crashes or freezes | System incompatibility; Software conflict; Insufficient system resources. | Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements. Close other demanding applications. Reinstall the software. Update your operating system. |
