2. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating the lawn mower. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.
- Read and understand all instructions before operating the machine.
- Keep children and pets away from the operating area.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, hearing protection, and sturdy footwear.
- Never operate the mower under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Inspect the area for debris before mowing.
- Turn off the engine and remove the key before performing any maintenance or clearing blockages.
- Do not operate on excessively steep slopes.
3. Setup and Assembly
Before first use, ensure all components are correctly assembled and checked.
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the mower and all accessories from the packaging. Retain packaging for future transport if needed.
- Handlebar/Steering Wheel Assembly: Attach the steering wheel securely. Ensure all bolts are tightened.
- Seat Installation: Mount the operator's seat. The spring-loaded seat provides comfortable operation.
- Grass Catcher Attachment: Attach the 130-liter grass catcher to the rear of the mower. Ensure it is securely latched.
- Fluid Levels:
- Engine Oil: Check the oil level. The oil tank volume is 0.59 liters. Use recommended engine oil.
- Fuel: Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline. The fuel tank volume is 1.8 liters.
- Tire Pressure: Check and adjust tire pressure as per specifications for optimal performance and stability.

4. Operating Instructions
Familiarize yourself with the controls and operating procedures before starting the engine.
4.1. Starting the Engine
- Ensure the parking brake is engaged.
- Insert the key into the ignition switch.
- Turn the key to the "START" position. The electric start system will engage the Briggs & Stratton 850 Series engine. Release the key once the engine starts.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few moments before engaging the blades.

4.2. Engaging the Blades
Locate the blade engagement lever. Slowly engage the blades once the engine is running smoothly.
4.3. Adjusting Cutting Height
The cutting height can be adjusted in 4 steps, from 30 mm to 90 mm. Use the cutting height adjustment lever to select the desired height.

4.4. Gear Selection and Driving
The mower features 4 forward gears and 1 reverse gear. The maximum speed is up to 4.5 km/h.
- Select the desired gear using the gear lever.
- Slowly release the clutch (if applicable) or press the accelerator pedal to begin moving.
- Steer using the steering wheel. The compact design allows for a very small turning radius.

4.5. Emptying the Grass Catcher
The large 130-liter grass catcher is easy to empty. When full, disengage the blades, stop the engine, and use the telescopic rod to release and empty the catcher.

4.6. Stopping the Engine
- Disengage the blades.
- Bring the mower to a complete stop.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position and remove it.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your HECHT 5162 lawn mower.
- Engine Oil Check: Check engine oil level before each use. Change oil according to the engine manufacturer's recommendations (Briggs & Stratton).
- Air Filter Cleaning/Replacement: Clean or replace the air filter regularly, especially in dusty conditions.
- Spark Plug Inspection: Inspect and clean the spark plug periodically. Replace if worn.
- Blade Inspection and Sharpening: Regularly inspect the cutting blades for sharpness and damage. Sharpen or replace blades as needed. Ensure blades are balanced after sharpening.
- Deck Cleaning: Clean the underside of the cutting deck after each use to prevent grass buildup, which can affect cutting performance.
