4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Programming the Tags

To program the FONGWAH UHF tags, you will need a compatible UHF RFID reader/writer device. Connect the reader/writer to your computer and use the provided software (often with an SDK) to write the desired EPC data to each tag. Ensure the tags are within the writing range of the device, typically 0-20 cm for desktop readers.

4.2 Reading the Tags

Once programmed, the tags can be read by any compatible UHF RFID reader. The reading distance can vary from 1 to 8 meters depending on the reader's power and antenna configuration. For optimal reading, ensure a clear line of sight or sufficient signal strength between the tag and the reader antenna.

4.3 Compatible Reader Devices

FONGWAH offers various UHF RFID reader/writer devices that are compatible with these tags. Examples include:

  • Model U1-CU-71: Desktop UHF RFID Reader Writer (860-960MHz, Keyboard Emulator, SDK Available, Reading distance: 0 to 50 cm, Writing distance: 0 to 20 cm).
  • Model U6-CU-91: Gen2 UHF RFID Reader Writer (860-960MHz, Keyboard Emulator, SDK Available, Read Distance: 0 to 100cm, Write Distance: 0 to 20cm).

5. Maintenance

FONGWAH UHF tags require minimal maintenance. To ensure longevity and reliable performance:

  • Avoid exposing tags to extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals.
  • Ensure the adhesive surface is applied to a clean, dry, and flat area to prevent peeling.
  • Do not bend or crease the tags excessively, as this may damage the internal antenna or chip.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Tags Not Reading

  • Check Reader Compatibility: Ensure your RFID reader operates on the UHF frequency (860-960MHz) and supports EPC C1 Gen2 / ISO18000-6C protocol.
  • Verify Reading Range: Confirm the tag is within the effective reading range of your device. Obstacles or interference can reduce this range.
  • Environmental Factors: Metal surfaces or liquids near the tag can interfere with RFID signals. Try repositioning the tag or reader.
  • Tag Damage: Inspect the tag for visible damage (creases, tears). A damaged antenna or chip may prevent reading.

6.2 Tags Not Programming

  • Writing Range: Ensure the tag is within the specific writing range of your UHF RFID writer, which is typically shorter than the reading range.
  • Software Configuration: Verify that the programming software is correctly configured and communicating with the reader/writer.
  • Power Supply: Ensure the reader/writer device has adequate power.
  • Tag Integrity: A faulty tag may not accept new data. Try programming a different tag.

For persistent issues, consult the manual for your specific UHF RFID reader/writer device or contact FONGWAH customer support.
