4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Antenna Installation

Carefully screw the provided 2.4GHz antenna onto the SMA connector located on the module. Ensure it is securely tightened but do not overtighten.

4.2. Power Connection

Connect a DC power supply within the range of 5V to 28V to the DC5-28V terminals. Observe polarity: connect the positive (+) lead to the '+' terminal and the negative (-) lead to the '-' terminal. A power supply capable of delivering at least 350mA at 5V is recommended.

4.3. RS485 Connection

Connect your RS485 device to the RS485 terminals on the module. Connect the A line of your RS485 device to the 'A' terminal, the B line to the 'B' terminal, and the ground to the 'GND' terminal.

4.4. Node Configuration

The module can operate as a Zigbee Coordinator or a Router. Use the switch or jumper (if present, refer to specific product labeling) to select the desired node type. The Coordinator initiates and manages the Zigbee network, while Routers extend the network range and allow other devices to join.

5. Operation

5.1. Power On

Once all connections are made, apply power to the module. The LED indicators will illuminate, indicating power and initial status.

5.2. LED Indicators

  • LED (Active TX/RX): This LED indicates data transmission (TX) or reception (RX) activity over the wireless link. A blinking LED signifies active data flow.

5.3. Data Transmission

The DRF2659C transparently converts RS485 data to Zigbee packets for wireless transmission and vice-versa. Data sent to the RS485 port will be transmitted wirelessly, and data received wirelessly will be output via the RS485 port.

6. Advanced Configuration

The DRF2659C allows for advanced configuration of its serial port and wireless parameters using serial commands. These commands are typically sent from a connected computer or microcontroller via the RS485 interface.

6.1. Serial Port Settings

The default serial port rate is 38400bps with an 8-N-1 format. These can be changed via serial commands to rates such as 1200bps, 2400bps, 4800bps, 9600bps, 19200bps, 57600bps, and 115200bps. The format can also be set to 8-E-1 or 8-O-1.

6.2. Wireless Channel Selection

The default wireless frequency is 2.4GHz (2460MHz). Users can change the operating channel through serial commands within the range of 2405MHz to 2480MHz, with a step size of 5MHz. This allows for optimization in environments with potential interference.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure the DC power supply is connected correctly (polarity) and within the specified voltage range (5-28V). Check power supply functionality.
  • No Data Transmission:
    • Verify RS485 connections (A to A, B to B, GND to GND).
    • Confirm serial port settings (baud rate, data format) match between the module and the connected device.
    • Ensure the antenna is properly installed.
    • Check if the Zigbee network is properly formed (Coordinator active, Routers joined).
  • Poor Wireless Range:
    • Ensure the antenna is correctly attached and unobstructed.
    • Minimize physical obstructions (walls, metal objects) between modules.
    • Consider changing the wireless channel to avoid interference from other 2.4GHz devices.

9. Maintenance

The Taidacent DRF2659C module requires minimal maintenance. Keep the device clean and free from dust. Ensure it is operated within the specified temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid exposing the module to excessive moisture or corrosive environments.
