4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your DANOPLUS KIB-231 meter:

  1. Connect Electrodes:
    • Connect the pH electrode's BNC connector to the corresponding port on the main unit. Twist gently to secure.
    • Connect the EC electrode's plug to its designated port on the main unit.
  2. Power Connection:
    • Plug the 6V DC power adapter into the power port on the meter.
    • Plug the power adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
  3. Initial Power On: Press the "ON/OFF" button to power on the device. The displays should illuminate.
  4. Mounting (Optional): Use the provided mounting accessories (suction cups, clips, or bracket) to secure the meter in your desired location. Ensure the probes can reach the water source without strain.

5. Operation

Once set up, the meter is ready for use. For accurate readings, ensure the probes are clean and the meter is calibrated.

  1. Prepare Probes: Remove the protective caps from both pH and EC electrodes. Rinse the probes with distilled or deionized water before each use.
  2. Immerse Probes: Submerge both the pH and EC electrodes into the solution to be tested. Ensure the sensors are fully immersed but avoid submerging the entire probe body or the cable connections.
  3. Read Measurements: Allow a few moments for the readings to stabilize on both the pH and EC displays. The meter features Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) for accurate readings regardless of solution temperature (within its operating range).
  4. Backlight: Press the "LIGHT" button to turn the display backlight on or off for improved visibility in different lighting conditions.
  5. After Use: After taking measurements, rinse the probes thoroughly with distilled or deionized water. Replace the protective caps on the pH electrode (ensure it remains moist with storage solution or pH 4 buffer if possible) and EC electrode.

6. Calibration

Regular calibration is essential for maintaining the accuracy of your pH/EC meter. The meter comes with calibration solutions for both pH and EC.

6.1 pH Calibration

It is recommended to perform a two-point or three-point pH calibration using pH 6.864 and pH 4.003 buffer solutions. For optimal accuracy, calibrate regularly, especially if readings appear inconsistent or after prolonged storage.

  1. Prepare Solutions: Pour small amounts of pH 6.864 and pH 4.003 buffer solutions into separate clean beakers.
  2. Rinse Probe: Rinse the pH electrode with distilled water and gently blot dry.
  3. First Point Calibration (pH 6.864):
    • Immerse the pH electrode into the pH 6.864 buffer solution.
    • Allow the reading to stabilize.
    • Using the provided mini screwdriver, carefully adjust the pH trimmer on the back of the meter until the display reads 6.86.
  4. Second Point Calibration (pH 4.003):
    • Rinse the pH electrode with distilled water and gently blot dry.
    • Immerse the pH electrode into the pH 4.003 buffer solution.
    • Allow the reading to stabilize.
    • Adjust the pH trimmer until the display reads 4.00.
  5. Verification: After calibration, rinse the probe and test it in a known pH solution (e.g., pH 7.00 or another buffer) to verify accuracy.

6.2 EC Calibration

Calibrate the EC electrode using the provided 12.88 mS/cm (or 12880 µS/cm) standard solution.

  1. Prepare Solution: Pour a small amount of 12.88 mS/cm EC standard solution into a clean beaker.
  2. Rinse Probe: Rinse the EC electrode with distilled water and gently blot dry.
  3. Calibration:
    • Immerse the EC electrode into the 12.88 mS/cm standard solution.
    • Allow the reading to stabilize.
    • Using the provided mini screwdriver, carefully adjust the EC trimmer on the back of the meter until the display reads 12.88.
  4. Verification: After calibration, rinse the probe and test it in a known EC solution to verify accuracy.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your meter.

  • Electrode Cleaning: Regularly clean the electrodes to prevent buildup that can affect readings. Rinse with distilled water after each use. For stubborn deposits, consult specialized electrode cleaning solutions.
  • pH Electrode Storage: The pH electrode should always be kept moist. Store it with its protective cap filled with pH electrode storage solution or pH 4 buffer solution. Never store it dry or in distilled water, as this can damage the sensor.
  • EC Electrode Storage: The EC electrode can be stored dry after rinsing.
  • General Cleaning: Wipe the main unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Electrode Replacement: Electrodes have a limited lifespan and may need replacement if they no longer calibrate correctly or provide stable readings. Replacement pH electrodes typically connect via a BNC connector.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your meter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
