Setup

1. Hardware Installation

  2. Rack Mounting: Secure the RS1619xs+ into a standard 19-inch server rack using compatible rack rails (sold separately). Ensure proper ventilation.
  3. Connect Power: Connect the two AC power cords to the power ports on the rear of the NAS and then to power outlets.
  4. Connect Network: Connect one or more Ethernet cables from the NAS to your network switch or router.

2. Software Installation (DiskStation Manager - DSM)

  1. Power On: Press the power button on the front panel.
  2. Find the NAS: Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network and go to http://find.synology.com or use Synology Assistant.
  3. Install DSM: Follow the on-screen instructions to install DiskStation Manager (DSM). This will format the drives and set up the operating system.
  4. Create Administrator Account: Set up your administrator username and password.

Cannot find NAS on network:
Ensure Ethernet cables are securely connected. Check network switch/router status. Try using Synology Assistant to locate the device. Verify network settings on the computer.
Drive status LED indicates an error:
Access Storage Manager in DSM to check the specific drive status. A blinking orange LED often indicates a failing or degraded drive. Replace the drive as soon as possible.
Slow performance:
Check network bandwidth utilization. Monitor CPU and RAM usage in Resource Monitor. Ensure drives are healthy and not overloaded. Consider adding an optional 10GbE NIC or M.2 SSD cache for improved performance.
