The front panel provides access to all user-adjustable settings:

  • SUB LEVEL: Rotary knob to adjust the output level of the subwoofer signal. Range from 0 to 10.
  • STEREO/MONO: Push-button switch to select between stereo (out) and mono (in) operation for the subwoofer output.
  • FREQUENCY: Rotary knob to set the crossover frequency, ranging from 36Hz to 200Hz. This determines the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer output.
  • PHASE (0°/180°): Push-button switches for LEFT and RIGHT channels to invert the phase of the subwoofer output by 180 degrees. This helps in optimizing bass response relative to your main speakers.
  • PWR LED: Illuminates green when the unit is powered on.

5.2 Rear Panel

Figure 2: Rear Panel Connections of the ROLLS SX95

The rear panel houses all audio input and output connections, along with the power input:

  • INPUT (L/R RCA): Stereo RCA inputs for connecting the audio source (e.g., preamplifier, receiver's line output).
  • PASS THRU (L/R RCA): Stereo RCA outputs that provide the full-range input signal without any processing. Connect these to your main amplifier or powered speakers.
  • SUB OUTPUT (L/R RCA): Stereo RCA outputs for the low-pass filtered signal. Connect these to your powered subwoofer(s) or a subwoofer amplifier.
  • POWER: Input jack for connecting the included 12V auxiliary power supply.

6. Installation and Setup

Follow these steps to integrate the SX95 into your audio system:

  1. Ensure all audio equipment is powered off before making connections.
  2. Connect the line-level output from your audio source (e.g., preamplifier, receiver) to the INPUT (L/R RCA) jacks on the SX95 rear panel.
  3. Connect the PASS THRU (L/R RCA) outputs of the SX95 to the inputs of your main amplifier or powered speakers. This will carry the full-range signal to your main audio system.
  4. Connect the SUB OUTPUT (L/R RCA) jacks of the SX95 to the line-level inputs of your powered subwoofer(s) or subwoofer amplifier.
  5. Connect the included 12V auxiliary power supply to the POWER input on the SX95 rear panel, then plug the power supply into an AC outlet. The PWR LED on the front panel should illuminate.
  6. Power on your audio source, main amplifier/speakers, and subwoofer(s).

7. Operation

Once installed, adjust the controls on the front panel to optimize your subwoofer's performance:

  • SUB LEVEL: Start with the SUB LEVEL knob at a low setting (e.g., 3-4). Play some audio and gradually increase the level until the subwoofer blends seamlessly with your main speakers without overpowering them.
  • FREQUENCY: Adjust the FREQUENCY knob to set the crossover point. This should typically be set based on the frequency response of your main speakers and subwoofer. A common starting point is 80Hz, but experimentation is recommended to find the ideal blend for your specific setup and room acoustics.
  • STEREO/MONO: If you are using a single subwoofer, press the STEREO/MONO button in for mono operation. If you are using two subwoofers and wish to maintain stereo separation for the low frequencies, leave the button out for stereo operation.
  • PHASE (0°/180°): The phase switches help align the subwoofer's output with your main speakers. Listen to music with strong bass and try both 0° and 180° settings for each channel. Choose the setting that provides the most impactful and coherent bass response. Often, the correct phase will result in a fuller, more defined bass sound.

8. Maintenance

The ROLLS SX95 requires minimal maintenance. To ensure longevity and optimal performance:

  • Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
  • Do not expose the unit to extreme temperatures or humidity.

9. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
