4. Installation Instructions
Follow these steps carefully to install your Leviton T5015-T receptacle.
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that supplies power to the outlet box where you will install the receptacle. Turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Remove Old Receptacle (if applicable): Unscrew the wallplate and then the mounting screws holding the old receptacle in the electrical box. Carefully pull the old receptacle out of the box. Disconnect the wires.
- Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) of insulation from the ends of the circuit wires. Ensure the wire ends are clean and straight.
- Identify Wires:
- Hot/Live Wire: Typically black or red. Connects to the brass-colored terminal screws.
- Neutral Wire: Typically white. Connects to the silver-colored terminal screws.
- Ground Wire: Typically green or bare copper. Connects to the green hexagonal ground screw.

Side Wiring:- Form a hook at the end of each wire.
- Connect the hot wire(s) to the brass terminal screws.
- Connect the neutral wire(s) to the silver terminal screws.
- Connect the ground wire to the green hexagonal ground screw.
- Tighten all terminal screws firmly.
- Insert the stripped end of the hot wire(s) into the back-wire holes adjacent to the brass terminal screws.
- Insert the stripped end of the neutral wire(s) into the back-wire holes adjacent to the silver terminal screws.
- Connect the ground wire to the green hexagonal ground screw using the side-wire method.
- Tighten all terminal screws firmly to secure the back-wired connections.
- Mount the Receptacle: Carefully fold the wires into the electrical box, leaving enough room for the receptacle. Secure the receptacle to the electrical box using the provided mounting screws.
- Install Wallplate: Attach the wallplate (not included) over the receptacle.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Test the receptacle with a known working device.
5. Operation
The Leviton T5015-T is a standard 15 Amp, 125 Volt single receptacle. Its tamper-resistant (TR) feature includes internal shutters that prevent the insertion of single objects into the slots, enhancing safety, especially in homes with children. To operate, simply insert a standard two- or three-prong plug into the receptacle openings. The shutters will open only when a two- or three-prong plug is inserted simultaneously into both slots.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Clean the receptacle face with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the receptacle for any signs of damage, discoloration, or loose connections. If any issues are found, disconnect power and consult a qualified electrician.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Power:
- Check the circuit breaker or fuse for the circuit. Reset if tripped or replace if blown.
- Verify all wire connections are secure within the electrical box.
- Plug Does Not Insert:
- Ensure you are inserting a two- or three-prong plug straight and simultaneously into both slots. The tamper-resistant shutters require simultaneous pressure.
- Inspect the plug for bent prongs.
- Receptacle is Hot to Touch:
- Immediately disconnect power. This indicates a potential overload or faulty wiring. Consult a qualified electrician.
