3. Setup and Installation

The Nalbantov N-Drive 1000 is designed for a Plug & Play installation, specifically configured for the Roland S-50. No additional drivers are required.

Installation Steps:

  1. Power Off Equipment: Ensure your Roland S-50 is powered off and disconnected from the main power supply before beginning installation.
  2. Remove Existing Floppy Drive: Carefully remove the existing floppy disk drive from your equipment. Note the orientation of the power and data cables.

4. Operation

The N-Drive 1000 offers both simple and advanced modes of operation.

4.1. Panel Controls:

The front panel of the N-Drive 1000 features the following controls and indicators:

  • Selection Buttons: Use these buttons to select the desired virtual floppy disk number. The selected file will be loaded from the USB flash drive.
  • LED Display: This display shows the number of the currently active virtual floppy disk.
  • Green Indicator (Status LED): Located above the selection buttons, this indicator flashes when a virtual floppy disk is being loaded or remains constantly lit when active.
  • USB Port: Insert a compatible USB flash drive into this port.

4.2. Simple Mode:

In Simple Mode, the N-Drive 1000 functions identically to a traditional floppy disk drive. You can perform standard floppy disk operations such as reading, writing, copying, and deleting files directly from your Roland S-50's interface.

To use Simple Mode, insert the pre-configured USB flash drive into the N-Drive 1000's USB port. Use the selection buttons to choose the desired virtual floppy disk. Your equipment will then interact with the selected virtual disk as if it were a physical floppy disk.

4.3. Advanced Mode:

Advanced Mode allows for more complex file management using the included software on a computer (PC or MAC). This mode is used for transferring files between the USB flash drive and a computer, performing backups, and handling virtual disk image files.

To utilize Advanced Mode, connect the USB flash drive to your computer and use the provided software to manage the virtual floppy disk images. This enables you to organize, backup, and prepare your data before transferring it back to the N-Drive 1000.
