Model: 465.012.210

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the S&R 1/2-inch 28-210 Nm Torque Wrench Set. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use, setup, operation, and maintenance of your new torque wrench. Please read these instructions carefully before use and retain them for future reference. This tool is designed for precise torque application in automotive, motorcycle, and industrial settings, ensuring fasteners are tightened to their specified values.

2. Safety Information

Always observe general safety precautions when using hand tools. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to the tool or workpiece.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, to prevent eye injury.
  • Ensure the workpiece is stable and secured before applying torque.
  • Do not use the torque wrench as a breaker bar or for loosening seized fasteners.
  • Avoid exceeding the maximum torque setting of 210 Nm.
  • Keep the tool clean and free from oil or grease to maintain a secure grip.
  • Store the torque wrench in its protective case when not in use, and always set it to its lowest torque setting (but not below the minimum) before storage to relieve spring tension.
  • Regular calibration is recommended to maintain accuracy.

4. Setup

4.1 Attaching Sockets and Extension

  1. Select the appropriate socket (17mm, 19mm, or 21mm) or the 125mm extension bar for your task.
  2. Firmly push the chosen accessory onto the 1/2-inch square drive of the torque wrench until it clicks into place.
  3. Ensure the accessory is securely attached before use.

4.2 Setting the Torque Value

The torque wrench features a dual-range scale for precise adjustment.

  1. Unlock: Rotate the locking knob at the end of the handle counter-clockwise to unlock the adjustment mechanism.
  2. Adjust: Rotate the handle to set the desired torque value. The main scale on the body provides major increments (e.g., 28, 42, 56 Nm), while the smaller scale on the handle allows for fine adjustments (0-12 Nm). Add the value from the handle scale to the main scale value to get the precise setting. For example, to set 100 Nm, align the 98 Nm mark on the main scale with the edge of the handle, then rotate the handle until the '2' mark on the handle aligns with the center line, resulting in 98 + 2 = 100 Nm.
  3. Lock: Once the desired torque is set, rotate the locking knob clockwise to secure the setting.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Applying Torque

  1. Ensure the torque wrench is set to the correct torque value and locked.
  2. Place the socket firmly onto the fastener.
  3. Hold the torque wrench by the handle and apply steady, increasing pressure in the tightening direction (clockwise for most fasteners).
  4. Continue applying pressure until you feel and hear a distinct "click" from the wrench. This indicates that the preset torque has been reached.
  5. Immediately stop applying force once the click is felt/heard. Do not continue to tighten the fastener beyond this point.
  6. Remove the torque wrench from the fastener.

5.2 Ratchet Head Direction

The ratchet head allows for both clockwise (CW) and counter-clockwise (CCW) operation. Use the switch on the ratchet head to select the desired direction for tightening or loosening. For torque application, ensure the switch is set to the tightening direction (usually clockwise).

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning and Storage

  • After each use, wipe the torque wrench clean with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals.
  • Before storing, always reset the torque wrench to its lowest setting (28 Nm) to relieve tension on the internal spring mechanism. This helps maintain the tool's accuracy over time.
  • Store the torque wrench and its accessories in the provided protective case in a dry, clean environment.

6.2 Calibration

The S&R torque wrench is factory calibrated according to DIN 6789 standards with an accuracy of ±4%. To ensure continued precision, periodic recalibration by a qualified service center is recommended, especially after heavy use or if the tool has been dropped.
