Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective operation of your BTMETER BT-1800 High Temperature Infrared Thermometer. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.
The BT-1800 is a non-contact infrared thermometer designed for measuring extremely high temperatures in industrial applications such as metal melting furnaces, forges, kilns, and ceramic firing. It features a wide temperature range, high distance-to-spot ratio, and adjustable emissivity for accurate measurements.
Safety Information
- Laser Safety: This device uses a Class 2 laser product (Wavelength 630-670 nm, Output <0.5mW). Do not stare directly into the laser beam. Avoid directing the laser beam at eyes or reflective surfaces.
- Intended Use: This thermometer is designed for measuring the temperature of inanimate objects only. It is not accurate for measuring human or animal body temperature and should not be used for medical purposes.
- Handling: Handle the device with care. Avoid dropping or subjecting it to strong impacts.
- Environment: Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or corrosive environments.
- Cleaning: Refer to the Maintenance section for proper cleaning instructions.

The device also features a metal screw hole for tripod mounting and a D-shape buckle for attachment to belt loops, enhancing portability and stability during use.

Setup
Battery Installation
The BT-1800 requires a 9V battery for operation. Follow these steps to install or replace the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment on the handle of the thermometer.
- Open the battery door.
- Connect the 9V battery to the battery connector, ensuring correct polarity.
- Place the battery into the compartment and close the battery door securely.
Attaching the Carabiner
For convenient carrying, you can attach the provided carabiner to the base of the thermometer:
- Locate the small screw at the bottom of the handle.
- Use a small screwdriver to remove this screw.
- Insert the carabiner's loop into the hole and secure it by re-inserting and tightening the screw.
Operating Instructions
Basic Temperature Measurement
- Point the thermometer at the target object.
- Press and hold the Trigger to begin measurement. The laser pointer will activate to indicate the measurement area.
- The temperature reading will be displayed on the LCD screen. Release the trigger to hold the reading.

Unit Conversion (°F/°C)
To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press the °C/DN or °F/UP button while the device is on.
Mode Selection and Emissivity Adjustment
Press the MODE button to cycle through various functions:
- MAX: Displays the maximum temperature recorded during a scan.
- MIN: Displays the minimum temperature recorded during a scan.
- AVG: Displays the average temperature recorded during a scan.
- DIF: Displays the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures.
- LAL (Low Alarm): Set a low temperature alarm. The device will flash if the measured temperature falls below this value.
- HAL (High Alarm): Set a high temperature alarm. The device will flash if the measured temperature exceeds this value.
- Emissivity (E): Adjust the emissivity setting (0.1 to 1.0) to match the surface being measured for improved accuracy. Consult a reference table for common material emissivities.
To adjust values (e.g., alarm thresholds or emissivity), use the °F/UP and °C/DN buttons after selecting the desired mode with the MODE button.
Laser Pointer and Flashlight
- Press the Laser Pointer Button to turn the laser on or off. The BT-1800 features dual laser pointers for precise targeting.
- Press the Backlit Screen/Flashlight Button to activate the screen backlight or the integrated flashlight for use in dark environments.

Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S)
The BT-1800 has a Distance to Spot (D:S) ratio of 50:1. This means that at a distance of 50 units from the target, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 unit. A higher D:S ratio allows for accurate temperature measurement from a greater distance, which is crucial for high-temperature applications.

Auto Power Off
The device features an automatic power-off function to conserve battery life. It will power off after a period of inactivity.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: To clean the device, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the lens is clean for accurate readings.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low power indicator appears on the display. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section for instructions.
- Storage: Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place when not in use.
