Unit Conversion (°F/°C)

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press the °C/DN or °F/UP button while the device is on.

Mode Selection and Emissivity Adjustment

Press the MODE button to cycle through various functions:

  • MAX: Displays the maximum temperature recorded during a scan.
  • MIN: Displays the minimum temperature recorded during a scan.
  • AVG: Displays the average temperature recorded during a scan.
  • DIF: Displays the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures.
  • LAL (Low Alarm): Set a low temperature alarm. The device will flash if the measured temperature falls below this value.
  • HAL (High Alarm): Set a high temperature alarm. The device will flash if the measured temperature exceeds this value.
  • Emissivity (E): Adjust the emissivity setting (0.1 to 1.0) to match the surface being measured for improved accuracy. Consult a reference table for common material emissivities.

To adjust values (e.g., alarm thresholds or emissivity), use the °F/UP and °C/DN buttons after selecting the desired mode with the MODE button.

Laser Pointer and Flashlight

  • Press the Laser Pointer Button to turn the laser on or off. The BT-1800 features dual laser pointers for precise targeting.
  • Press the Backlit Screen/Flashlight Button to activate the screen backlight or the integrated flashlight for use in dark environments.

Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S)

The BT-1800 has a Distance to Spot (D:S) ratio of 50:1. This means that at a distance of 50 units from the target, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 unit. A higher D:S ratio allows for accurate temperature measurement from a greater distance, which is crucial for high-temperature applications.

Auto Power Off

The device features an automatic power-off function to conserve battery life. It will power off after a period of inactivity.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: To clean the device, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the lens is clean for accurate readings.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low power indicator appears on the display. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section for instructions.
  • Storage: Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Inaccurate Temperature Readings
  • Incorrect emissivity setting for the target material.
  • Target object does not fill the measurement spot.
  • Infrared lens is dirty or obstructed.
  • Measuring highly reflective surfaces directly.
  • Adjust the emissivity setting (E) to match the surface being measured.
  • Move closer to the target or ensure the target is larger than the measurement spot.
  • Clean the infrared lens with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For reflective surfaces, apply a non-reflective matte paint or tape to the measurement area and measure its temperature after it stabilizes.
Device Does Not Power On
  • Battery is dead or improperly installed.
  • Replace the 9V battery with a fresh one.
  • Ensure the battery is correctly connected to the terminals and the battery door is securely closed.
Screen Not Displaying Correctly / Blank Screen
  • Device malfunction or internal error.
  • Attempt to remove and reinsert the battery.
  • If the issue persists, contact customer support for assistance or warranty claim.
