5. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Sound Town METIS-10MPW speakers:

  1. Placement: Position the monitor speakers on a stable, flat surface, typically on the floor in front of the performer, angled towards them. Ensure adequate space for ventilation around the rear panel.
  2. Power Connection: Before connecting the power cable, ensure the POWER switch on the speaker is in the OFF position and the POWER SELECT switch is set to the correct voltage for your region (110V or 230V). Connect the provided power cable to the AC IN port on the speaker and then to a grounded electrical outlet.
  3. Audio Input Connection:
    • For mixers or other professional audio equipment, use an XLR cable to connect the source's output to the LINE IN (XLR) port on the speaker.
    • For auxiliary devices, use a 1/4-inch cable to connect to the AUX IN (1/4") port.
    • For MP3 players or smartphones, use a 1/8-inch (3.5mm) cable to connect to the MP3 IN (1/8") port.
  4. Daisy-Chaining (Optional): To connect multiple METIS-10MPW speakers, use an XLR cable from the LINE OUT (XLR) of the first speaker to the LINE IN (XLR) of the next speaker.
  5. Initial Settings: Turn the VOLUME knob fully counter-clockwise (minimum). Set the GAIN knob to its minimum position. Set the BASS, MID, and TREBLE controls to their center (0dB) positions.
  6. Power On: Turn on your audio source (mixer, instrument, etc.) first. Then, flip the POWER switch on the speaker to the ON position. The POWER indicator light will illuminate.

6. Operating Instructions

Once the speakers are set up, follow these steps for operation:

  1. Adjusting Gain: Slowly increase the GAIN knob until the CLIP indicator light flashes only occasionally during the loudest parts of your audio signal. If the CLIP light stays on constantly, reduce the GAIN to prevent distortion.
  2. Adjusting Volume: Gradually increase the VOLUME knob to achieve the desired listening level.
  3. Equalization (EQ): Use the BASS, MID, and TREBLE controls to fine-tune the sound to your preference or to suit the acoustics of the environment. Start with small adjustments.
  4. Monitoring: Listen to the output and make further adjustments to GAIN, VOLUME, and EQ as needed to ensure clear and balanced sound for the performers.
  5. Power Off: When finished, first turn the VOLUME knob down to minimum. Then, flip the POWER switch to the OFF position. Finally, turn off your audio source.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your speakers:

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the speakers in a dry, dust-free environment.
  • Inspection: Periodically check power cables and audio cables for any signs of damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Fuse Replacement: If the speaker does not power on, check the fuse located in the AC IN module. Replace it only with a fuse of the same type and rating (refer to the marking near the fuse holder). Always disconnect power before attempting fuse replacement.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:
