1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Mi-Heat SAS816RF Wireless Room Thermostat. This kit comprises a transmitter (control unit) and a receiver. The room thermostat is designed to measure and regulate temperature from a specific location within a room, separate from the heat source itself. It is compatible with most common residential heating systems, including electric, gas, or oil heaters.
Unlike traditional single-unit thermostats, the SAS816RF separates its functions into two distinct units. The receiver establishes the connection and manages the on/off control of your heating system. The control unit (transmitter) provides the user interface for temperature measurement and adjustment. Both units communicate wirelessly via an 868 MHz radio frequency.
2. Product Overview
The Mi-Heat SAS816RF system consists of two main components:
- Transmitter (Control Unit): This is the portable unit with the display and controls, used to set the desired room temperature. It contains an integrated room temperature sensor.
- Receiver: This unit connects directly to your heating system and switches it on or off based on signals from the transmitter.

Key Features of the Transmitter:
- LCD screen displaying the current temperature.
- Manual temperature adjustment via a rotary knob.
- On/Off switch for direct control.
- Frost protection function.
- Low battery indicator.

Explanation of Symbols:

Figure 3: Explanation of Display Symbols
- IST-Temperatur (Actual temperature): Displays the current measured room temperature.
- Raumtemperatur-Modus (Room temperature mode): Indicates the thermostat is operating based on room temperature.
- Niedriger Batteriestand (Low battery status): Alerts when batteries need replacement.
- Aktueller Schaltzustand (Current switch state): Shows if the heating is currently on or off.
- Verbindungssymbol (Connection icon): Indicates the wireless connection status between transmitter and receiver.
- Temperatur-Einheit in °C (Temperature unit in °C): Confirms temperature is displayed in Celsius.
3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Transmitter Installation
- The transmitter is battery-operated and designed for surface mounting. Choose a central location in the room where temperature measurement is representative and away from direct heat sources or drafts.
- Insert 2 AA batteries into the transmitter unit. Ensure correct polarity.
- Mount the transmitter securely to the wall using appropriate screws and anchors.

3.2 Receiver Installation and Wiring
The receiver is designed for surface mounting and requires a wired connection to your heating system. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician to ensure safety and proper functionality.
- Mount the receiver in a suitable location near your heating system, ensuring it is accessible for wiring.
- Connect the receiver to a 230V AC 50Hz power supply.
- Wire the receiver to your heating appliance (e.g., infrared heater, actuator, valve, boiler) according to the wiring diagram provided in the full instruction manual. The receiver offers both a 230V output (up to 3600W) and a potential-free contact (up to 1150W) for various heating systems.

3.3 Pairing (Initial Connection)
The transmitter and receiver are typically pre-paired from the factory. If re-pairing is necessary or if you are setting up multiple units, follow the instructions in the detailed manual. The system uses a secure coded connection for reliable operation, even with multiple radio sets in one household.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Setting the Temperature
To adjust the desired room temperature, rotate the large knob on the front of the transmitter unit. The LCD screen will display the set temperature. The thermostat will then work to maintain this temperature by sending signals to the receiver to turn the heating system on or off.
4.2 On/Off Switch
The transmitter features an On/Off switch. Use this switch to manually turn the thermostat function on or off. When off, the thermostat will not regulate temperature.
4.3 Frost Protection
The thermostat includes a frost protection function. When activated (refer to the full manual for activation details), this feature will automatically turn on the heating if the room temperature drops below a certain threshold (typically around 5°C) to prevent freezing.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the transmitter's LCD screen (see Figure 3), replace the 2 AA batteries promptly. Use high-quality alkaline batteries for optimal performance and longevity. Ensure correct polarity when inserting new batteries.
5.2 Cleaning
Clean the thermostat and receiver units with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the units in water. Ensure the units are dry before use.
6. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your Mi-Heat SAS816RF thermostat, consider the following common solutions:
- No Display on Transmitter: Check if batteries are correctly inserted and not depleted. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Heating Not Responding:
- Ensure the transmitter is switched 'On'.
- Verify the receiver has power (check its indicator lights).
- Check the wireless connection icon on the transmitter. If it's not showing a connection, try re-pairing the units (refer to the full manual for pairing instructions).
- Ensure the set temperature is above the current room temperature if you expect the heating to turn on.
- Check the wiring connections at the receiver and to the heating system.
- Inaccurate Temperature Reading: Ensure the transmitter is not placed in direct sunlight, near a heat source, or in a drafty area.
- Interference: While designed for reliable operation, strong radio interference from other devices operating on similar frequencies might occasionally affect performance. Try relocating the transmitter or receiver if persistent issues occur.
For persistent problems, consult the comprehensive manual or contact customer support.
