4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting the Detector

Place the anti-slip mat on a flat, stable surface on your vehicle's dashboard. Position the radar detector on the anti-slip mat. Ensure the detector has a clear, unobstructed view of the road ahead for optimal detection performance. Avoid placing it behind metallic objects or tinted windows that may interfere with radar signals.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

The device powers on automatically when connected to a 12V power source and the vehicle's ignition is active. To power off, simply disconnect the car charger or turn off the vehicle's ignition.

5.2 Volume Adjustment

Use the UP button to increase the alert volume and the DN button to decrease it.

5.3 Language Selection

Press and hold the MENU button for approximately 3 seconds to toggle between English and Russian voice reporting.

5.4 Mode Selection (City/Highway)

Press and hold the MENU button for approximately 3 seconds to switch between City Mode and Highway Mode. The current mode will be indicated by a voice alert.

6. Operating Modes

6.1 Highway Mode

This is the default setting. In Highway Mode, the detector operates with high sensitivity, reporting each time a signal is received. This mode is suitable for open road driving where interference from other radar sources is minimal.

6.2 City Mode

In City Mode, the detector is optimized to reduce false alarms caused by common urban radar sources (e.g., automatic door openers, other radar detectors). When a motion signal is detected, the vocal report will be issued every 10 seconds. The device will return to its default setting once the motion signal disappears. It is recommended to switch to City Mode manually and adjust the volume down in urban environments to minimize nuisance alerts.

6.3 Band Detection

The Excelvan V9 supports K and Ka bands. It can detect police radar guns from 200 to 800 meters ahead, depending on traffic conditions, landscape, and climate. This model primarily supports flow motion detection and does not detect traffic cameras.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 False Alarms in City Areas

Issue: The detector frequently issues alerts in urban environments without an apparent radar source.

Solution: Many similar radar signals in city areas (e.g., other car radar detectors, automatic door sensors in stores/banks) can interfere with the detector, leading to false alarms. This is normal and cannot be entirely avoided. Switch to City Mode and consider turning down the volume to minimize nuisance alerts.

8.2 Limited Detection Range

Issue: The detection range seems shorter than expected.

Solution: Detection range can vary based on traffic status, landscape, and climate. Ensure the detector's location and angle provide a clear, unobstructed view of the road. The less interference, the farther the reaction distance. Avoid placing the device behind metallic objects or heavily tinted windows.

8.3 Device Not Powering On

Issue: The detector does not turn on when connected to the car charger.

Solution: Check if the car charger is securely plugged into both the detector and the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is on and the cigarette lighter socket is receiving power. Test the charger with another 12V device if possible, or try a different 12V socket in your vehicle.

9. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Excelvan V9 Radar Detector, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the casing or display.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the detector in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Handle the device with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.

10. Warranty and Support

For warranty information or technical support, please refer to the documentation provided at the point of purchase or contact your retailer. Keep your purchase receipt as proof of purchase for warranty claims.
