3. Hardware Setup
3.1 Connecting the DVR
Before powering on the DVR, ensure all necessary connections are made. Refer to the rear panel diagram for port identification.
- Video Input: Connect your surveillance cameras to the BNC video input ports (1-16) on the rear panel using BNC video power cables.
- Video Output: Connect a monitor to the DVR using either the HDMI or VGA port.
- Audio Input/Output: Connect audio devices to the Audio In (RCA) and Audio Out (RCA) ports if audio recording/playback is desired.
- Network Connection: Connect the LAN port of the DVR to your router using an Ethernet cable for network access and remote viewing.
- USB Ports: Connect the included USB mouse to one of the USB ports. Additional USB devices (e.g., flash drives for backup) can be connected to the other USB port.
- Power: Connect the DC 12V power adapter to the DVR's power input port and then to a power outlet.

3.2 Hard Drive Installation (HDD Not Included)
This DVR does not include a hard drive. To enable video recording, you must install a 3.5-inch SATA hard drive. Follow these steps:
- Prepare the DVR: Ensure the DVR is powered off and disconnected from the power source.
- Remove Cover Screws: Locate and twist down the screws on the DVR casing to remove the top cover.
- Access Hard Disk Bay: Carefully remove the top cover to expose the internal components and the hard disk mounting bay.
- Connect Cables: Connect the SATA data cable and power cable from the DVR to the corresponding ports on your 3.5-inch SATA hard drive.
- Secure Hard Drive: Place the hard drive into the mounting bay and secure it using the provided screws.
- Replace Cover: Carefully replace the top cover and secure it with the screws.

4. Software Setup and Operation
4.1 Initial Configuration
Upon first power-up, the DVR will guide you through an initial setup wizard. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up basic parameters such as language, date/time, network settings, and password. It is highly recommended to set a strong password for security.
4.2 Remote Access (Mobile & PC)
The DVR supports remote viewing and playback from your smart devices and PC, provided the DVR is connected to the internet via your router.
- Mobile App: Download the "XMEYE" app from your device's app store (iOS/Android). Scan the QR code displayed on the DVR's monitor (or found in the DVR's network settings) to add your device. This allows for live video viewing and playback on your smartphone or tablet.
- PC Client: Install the PC client software (usually provided on a mini-CD with the DVR or available for download from the manufacturer's website). Use the device ID or IP address to add the DVR to the client software for remote monitoring and management.

4.3 Motion Detection and Alerts
Configure motion detection settings to receive alerts when activity is detected:
- Enable Motion Detection: Navigate to the DVR's menu, typically under 'Alarm' or 'Event' settings, and enable motion detection for desired channels.
- Configure Detection Area: Define specific areas within the camera's view where motion should be detected.
- Set Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity level to minimize false alarms.
- Email Alerts: Enter your email address in the DVR's network settings to receive alert emails immediately upon motion detection.
- App Pushes: Ensure the XMEYE app is configured to receive push notifications for motion events.

4.4 Video Backup
To back up recorded video footage:
- Insert USB Drive: Insert a USB flash drive into one of the DVR's USB ports.
- Access Backup Menu: Navigate to the 'Backup' or 'Export' option in the DVR's main menu.
- Select Footage: Choose the date, time, and channels of the video footage you wish to back up.
- Start Backup: Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate the backup process to your USB drive.
5. Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: Keep the DVR unit clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners.
