Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging.
  2. Install Filter Cartridge: Open the hinged lid of the filter unit. Insert one Small Whisper BioBag filter cartridge into the designated slot. Ensure it is seated properly.
  3. Position in Aquarium: The filter can be positioned using either the adjustable tank clip or the suction cup.
    • Using the Tank Clip: Attach the tank clip to the rim of your aquarium. The filter's space-saving design allows it to be placed as close as 1 inch from the wall.
    • Using the Suction Cup: Press the suction cup firmly against the inside glass of the aquarium at the desired location.
Ensure the filter is fully submerged in water, but the water level does not exceed the maximum fill line if indicated. The adjustable design allows for placement in high or low water levels.
  4. Organize Cord: Use the integrated cord organizer to keep the power cord neat and tidy.
  5. Connect Power: Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet. Ensure a drip loop is formed to prevent water from traveling along the cord to the outlet.

Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and powered on, the Tetra Whisper 4i Internal Power Filter will begin its three-stage filtration process:

  • Mechanical Filtration: Water flows through the filter cartridge floss, which effectively traps debris and fish waste particles.
  • Chemical Filtration: The Ultra-activated carbon within the cartridge works to remove odors and discoloration from the aquarium water, maintaining clarity.
  • Biological Filtration: Beneficial bacteria colonize the filter media, converting harmful ammonia and nitrites into less toxic nitrates.

The powerful 27 GPH (Gallons Per Hour) motor ensures that a 4-gallon aquarium is cycled more than 6 times per hour, providing thorough and continuous water purification.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance of your Tetra Whisper 4i Internal Power Filter and the health of your aquarium.

  1. Filter Cartridge Replacement: Replace the Small Whisper BioBag filter cartridge approximately every 30 days, or sooner if water flow significantly decreases or the cartridge appears heavily soiled.
    • Unplug the filter from the power outlet.
    • Open the hinged lid.
    • Remove the old cartridge and discard it.
    • Insert a new Small Whisper BioBag filter cartridge.
    • Close the hinged lid and plug the filter back in.
  2. Water Changes: It is recommended to replace approximately 30% of your aquarium water every 30 days to maintain water quality.
  3. Filter Unit Cleaning: Periodically, unplug the filter and gently rinse the exterior and impeller assembly with aquarium water to remove any accumulated debris. Do not use tap water directly on biological media as chlorine can harm beneficial bacteria.
