1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Perel Electronic Safe, model BG90017. This safe is designed to protect your important documents and valuable possessions against theft. It features a secure digital keypad for access and an emergency key for manual override. The safe's interior is carpeted to prevent scratches to delicate items, and it includes mounting hardware for secure installation in your home or office.

Please read this manual carefully before operating the safe to ensure proper use and to maximize its security features.

2. Safety Information

  • Keep the emergency keys in a secure location away from the safe. Do not store them inside the safe.
  • Do not leave the safe unlocked or the door ajar.
  • Ensure the safe is securely mounted to a wall or floor to prevent unauthorized removal.
  • Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears to avoid being locked out.
  • Avoid exposing the safe to extreme temperatures or humidity.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the inside of the safe door.
  2. Open the battery cover.
  3. Insert 4 new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery cover. The safe will emit a beep, indicating successful battery installation.

4.2. Setting Your Personal Code

The safe comes with a factory default code (usually '159' or '1234'). It is crucial to change this immediately.

  1. With the safe door open, press the red reset button located on the inside of the door, near the hinge. The safe will beep, and the yellow indicator light on the keypad will illuminate.
  2. Within 5 seconds, enter your new 3 to 8 digit personal code on the keypad.
  3. Press the 'A' or '#' button to confirm your new code. The safe will beep again, and the yellow light will turn off, indicating the code has been successfully set.
  4. Test your new code with the door open to ensure it works correctly before closing the safe.

4.3. Mounting the Safe

For enhanced security, it is highly recommended to securely fix the safe to a wall or floor using the provided mounting bolts.

  1. Choose a suitable location for mounting, such as inside a cabinet, closet, or directly to a wall or floor.
  2. Open the safe door and locate the pre-drilled mounting holes on the back or bottom of the safe.
  3. Mark the drilling points on the wall or floor through the holes.
  4. Drill pilot holes at the marked locations using an appropriate drill bit for your surface (e.g., masonry bit for concrete/brick, wood bit for studs).
  5. Align the safe with the drilled holes and insert the mounting bolts through the safe and into the wall/floor.
  6. Tighten the bolts securely to firmly anchor the safe.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Opening the Safe with Your Digital Code

  1. Enter your 3 to 8 digit personal code on the keypad.
  2. Press the 'A' or '#' button to confirm.
  3. If the code is correct, the green indicator light will illuminate, and you will hear a beep.
  4. Within 5 seconds, turn the knob clockwise to open the safe door.

5.2. Opening the Safe with the Emergency Key

The emergency key provides manual access to the safe in case of forgotten code, dead batteries, or electronic malfunction.

  1. Locate the emergency keyhole, usually hidden behind a small cover on the keypad panel.
  2. Remove the cover.
  3. Insert one of the emergency keys into the keyhole and turn it counter-clockwise.
  4. While holding the key turned, rotate the main knob clockwise to open the safe door.
  5. Once open, remove the emergency key and replace the cover.

5.3. Closing the Safe

  1. Close the safe door firmly.
  2. Turn the knob counter-clockwise to engage the locking bolts. The safe is now locked.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Battery Replacement

When the red indicator light flashes or the safe emits continuous beeps during operation, it indicates low battery power. Replace all 4 AA batteries immediately following the instructions in Section 4.1.

6.2. Cleaning

Clean the safe's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or electronic components.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Safe does not open with digital code:
    • Ensure batteries are fresh and correctly installed.
    • Verify you are entering the correct 3-8 digit code.
    • Try opening with the emergency key (refer to Section 5.2).
  • Keypad is unresponsive:
    • Replace batteries.
    • If still unresponsive, use the emergency key to open the safe.
  • Safe beeps continuously or red light flashes:
    • This indicates low battery power. Replace all 4 AA batteries.
  • Forgotten code:
    • Use the emergency key to open the safe.
    • Once open, reset the code following instructions in Section 4.2.
