2. Safety Information
Read and understand all instructions before assembly and use. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage or personal injury.
- Weight Capacity: Do not exceed the carrier's maximum weight capacity of 500 lbs (226.8 kg). Always check your vehicle's hitch receiver tongue weight rating, and never exceed the lower of the two ratings.
- Secure Cargo: Always secure all cargo with appropriate tie-downs, straps, or a cargo net to prevent shifting or falling during transit.
- Clearance: Ensure adequate ground clearance, especially when driving over uneven terrain or speed bumps. Be aware that the carrier may reduce your vehicle's departure angle.
- Visibility: Ensure the cargo carrier and its contents do not obstruct your vehicle's taillights, brake lights, or license plate. Use the included reflectors for enhanced visibility.
- Assembly: Ensure all bolts, nuts, and pins are securely fastened before each use. Regularly inspect the carrier for any signs of wear, damage, or loose components.
- Driving: Drive cautiously, especially when turning or braking, as the added weight and length can affect vehicle handling.
- Maintenance: Keep the carrier clean and free of debris. Inspect for rust or corrosion, especially on painted surfaces.
3. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to assemble and install your ARKSEN Folding Hitch Cargo Carrier.
3.1 Assembly
- Unpack all components and verify against the parts list (not provided in this document, refer to your product packaging).
- Lay out the main cargo basket frame. Attach the side rails to the main basket using the provided bolts and nuts. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Attach the folding shank to the main cargo basket. Secure it with the large bolt and cotter pin, allowing the basket to pivot.
- Tighten all bolts and nuts using appropriate wrenches.

3.2 Installation on Vehicle
Ensure your vehicle is equipped with a standard 2-inch hitch receiver.
- Slide the folding shank of the assembled cargo carrier into your vehicle's 2-inch hitch receiver.
- Align the pin holes on the shank with the holes on the hitch receiver. Insert the hitch pin through both holes.
- Secure the hitch pin with the cotter pin or locking mechanism (if included).
- For added stability and to reduce wobble, install the anti-rattle device (if included) by tightening the bolts against the hitch receiver.
- Apply the reflective safety stickers to the designated areas on the carrier for increased visibility.

4. Operation
4.1 Loading Cargo
- Distribute weight evenly across the cargo basket.
- Place heavier items in the center and lighter items towards the edges.
- Do not allow cargo to extend beyond the sides or significantly above the top rails, especially if it obstructs visibility.
- Use the included cargo net or other tie-downs to securely fasten all items to prevent movement during travel.

4.2 Folding the Carrier
When not in use, the carrier can be folded upright against the vehicle for compact storage and easier parking.
- Ensure the carrier is empty and clear of any obstructions.
- Remove the cotter pin and hitch pin that secures the folding shank in the extended position.
- Carefully pivot the cargo basket upwards until it is in the vertical, folded position.
- Re-insert the hitch pin and cotter pin through the designated holes to secure the carrier in the folded position.
5. Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Before each use, inspect the carrier for any signs of damage, cracks, bends, or loose fasteners. Ensure all pins and bolts are securely tightened.
- Cleaning: Clean the carrier regularly with mild soap and water to remove dirt, road salt, and debris. Rinse thoroughly and dry to prevent rust.
- Rust Prevention: The carrier features a black epoxy powder coating for rust resistance. If any scratches or chips occur, touch up the paint to prevent corrosion.
- Storage: When not in use, store the carrier in a dry place to prolong its lifespan.

6. Troubleshooting
- Carrier Wobbles in Hitch: Ensure the hitch pin is fully inserted and secured. If an anti-rattle device was included, ensure it is properly installed and tightened. Some play is normal, but excessive wobble indicates loose connections.
- Low Ground Clearance: This carrier is designed for a 2-inch receiver. If your vehicle has a low hitch height, consider using a hitch riser adapter (sold separately) to improve ground clearance. Always verify clearance before driving.
- Difficulty Folding: Ensure the carrier is empty and the pins securing it in the extended position are fully removed. Check for any debris or damage obstructing the pivot points.
- Rust Appears: While coated for rust resistance, prolonged exposure to harsh conditions or damage to the coating can lead to rust. Clean affected areas and apply rust-inhibiting paint.
