4. Setup
Battery Installation:
The BT-960C thermometer requires two LR44 button batteries. To install or replace batteries:
- Remove the cap from the end of the thermometer opposite the probe. This cap also serves as an extended handle.
- Locate the battery compartment.
- Insert two LR44 batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the cap securely.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Turning On/Off
Press the 'MEAS' button to turn on the thermometer. The device will automatically power off after a period of inactivity to save battery life.
5.2. Taking a Measurement
- Point the infrared sensor towards the surface you wish to measure. The ideal testing distance is 30mm to 40mm.
- Press and hold the 'MEAS' button. The display will show the real-time temperature.
- Release the 'MEAS' button to hold the current reading on the screen.

5.3. Switching Temperature Units (℃/℉)
To switch between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉), locate the ℃/℉ button on the back of the device and press it. The display will update to the selected unit. The device remembers the last used unit.

5.4. Max/Min/Avg Functions
The thermometer features buttons for 'MAX/MIN' to display the maximum or minimum temperature recorded during a continuous measurement session. Refer to the on-screen indicators for these modes.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning
To clean the thermometer, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water. Ensure the infrared sensor lens is clean for accurate readings.
6.2. Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator on the display shows low power, replace the LR44 batteries as described in the 'Battery Installation' section (Section 4).
7. Troubleshooting
- Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the sensor lens is clean and the measurement distance is within the ideal range (30-40mm). Check for any obstructions between the thermometer and the target surface.
- Display Defaults to Celsius: If the unit consistently reverts to Celsius, ensure you are pressing the ℃/℉ button correctly to select Fahrenheit. The device should remember your last setting. If the issue persists, try replacing the batteries.
- Error Codes/No Functionality: Check battery installation and replace with fresh batteries if necessary. If the device still does not function, contact customer support.
- Dim Display: Ensure batteries are fresh. The device may not have a dedicated backlight button, so optimal lighting conditions are recommended for viewing.
