Pulsar 2,200W Portable Dual Fuel Quiet Inverter Generator

Model: PG2200BiS | Brand: Pulsar

Important Safety Information

Always read and understand the entire instruction manual before operating the generator. Failure to follow instructions can result in serious injury or death.

  • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Generators produce carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless gas that can kill you. Operate the generator outdoors only, far away from windows, doors, and vents. Never use indoors or in partially enclosed spaces.
  • Fire Hazard: Fuel is highly flammable. Do not refuel while the engine is running or hot. Store fuel in approved containers in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources.
  • Electrical Shock Hazard: Do not operate the generator in wet conditions. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly grounded.
  • Proposition 65 Warning: This product can expose you to chemicals including carbon monoxide, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

Setup

1. Adding Engine Oil

Before first use, the generator requires engine oil. Use the provided 10W30 oil bottle (350ML) and funnel to fill the oil reservoir. Ensure the generator is on a level surface. Refer to the oil fill cap for the correct oil level. The manual suggests 5W-30 for a wider temperature range.

2. Connecting the Propane Regulator and Tank

The generator comes with a propane regulator and hose for dual fuel operation. Propane is often preferred as it has a longer shelf life than gasoline and is less likely to gum up the carburetor.

  1. Connect the regulator hose to the generator's LPG inlet. This is located on the control panel and is labeled "LPG". Hand-screw it in, then tighten with a wrench if desired.
  2. Connect the other end of the regulator to a 20-pound propane tank. Remove the rubber end cap from the propane tank's valve.
  3. Hand-screw the regulator onto the propane tank valve. Ensure it is tightened securely to prevent leaks.
  4. Slowly open the propane tank valve. You may hear a brief hiss as the line pressurizes. Once pressurized, open the valve fully.

Operating the Generator

Starting on Propane:

  1. Ensure the generator is placed outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from any enclosed spaces, windows, or doors.
  2. Confirm the propane tank is connected and its valve is fully open.
  3. Set the fuel selector switch on the generator's control panel to "LPG". This also locks the propane hose in place.
  4. Turn the engine switch (red button) to the "ON" position.
  5. Ensure the Economy mode switch is in the "OFF" position for easier starting.
  6. The choke is only used for gasoline operation; do not use it when starting on propane.
  7. Purge the propane line by pressing the purge button on the regulator a few times (3-4 times is usually sufficient) until you hear the propane hiss.
  8. Firmly pull the recoil start handle until the engine starts. It may take a few pulls.
  9. Once the generator is running, you can switch the Economy mode to "ON" to conserve fuel and reduce noise, especially when running lighter loads.

Power Output:

The generator provides power through its 120V 15A AC outlets and a 5V integrated USB outlet. It also features parallel sockets for connecting another compatible inverter generator to increase total power output.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your generator. Always ensure the generator is turned off and cooled down before performing any maintenance.

  • Oil Changes: Perform the first oil change after a few hours of initial use. Subsequently, change the oil approximately every 80 hours of operation. Use 10W30 oil.
  • Spark Plug: The spark plug is located under a cover on the top of the generator. Use the provided spark plug wrench for access and replacement.
  • Air Filter: Regularly inspect and clean or replace the air filter to ensure proper engine performance.
  • Spark Arrestor: Check and clean the spark arrestor periodically to prevent carbon buildup, which can affect performance and pose a fire risk.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your generator, refer to the following general troubleshooting tips. For detailed diagnostics, consult the full user manual or contact customer support.

  • Generator Not Starting:
    • Check fuel level (gasoline or propane).
    • Ensure the fuel selector is set correctly for the fuel type being used.
    • Verify the engine switch is in the "ON" position.
    • If using propane, ensure the tank valve is open and the line is purged.
    • Check the oil level; low oil shutdown may prevent starting.
    • Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage.
  • No Power Output:
    • Check for overload indicator light. Reduce load if illuminated.
    • Ensure all circuit breakers on the control panel are reset.
    • Verify all connections to the outlets are secure.
  • Unusual Noise or Vibration:
    • Check for loose components.
    • Ensure the generator is on a stable, level surface.
    • Verify oil level and quality.
