2. Safety Information

5. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your amplifier. Follow these steps carefully.
5.1 Mounting Location
- Choose a dry, well-ventilated location away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Ensure the mounting surface is sturdy and can support the amplifier's weight.
- Allow at least 2 inches (5 cm) of space around the amplifier for proper airflow.
- Avoid mounting the amplifier upside down or vertically if it impedes heat dissipation.
5.2 Wiring Connections (Refer to Figure 4.3)
- Power (+12V): Connect a heavy-gauge power cable (e.g., 8 AWG or 4 AWG depending on system power) from the vehicle's positive battery terminal to the +12V terminal on the amplifier. Install an in-line fuse holder within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery.
- Ground (GND): Connect a heavy-gauge ground cable of the same length as the power cable from the GND terminal on the amplifier to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection.
- Remote (REM): Connect a remote turn-on wire (typically 18 AWG) from your head unit's remote output to the REM terminal on the amplifier. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with your head unit.
- Speaker Outputs: Connect your speakers to the SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals (CH1, CH2, CH3, CH4). Observe correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). For bridged operation, refer to the markings on the amplifier and ensure the speakers are rated for the lower impedance.
- Input Signal (Refer to Figure 4.2):
- RCA Line Input: Connect RCA cables from your head unit's pre-amp outputs to the LINE INPUT (CH1, CH2, CH3, CH4) on the amplifier.
- High-Level Input: If your head unit does not have RCA outputs, use the HIGH IN terminals. Connect the speaker wires from your head unit directly to these inputs.
5.3 Initial Settings (Refer to Figure 4.2)
- Gain Control: Start with the GAIN controls set to minimum. Gradually increase the gain until the desired volume is achieved without distortion.
- Crossover (X-OVER):
- FULL: Full range audio (for coaxial speakers or if external crossover is used).
- HPF (High Pass Filter): Allows frequencies above the set point to pass (for tweeters or mid-range speakers). Adjust the HPF knob to the desired frequency (e.g., 60Hz - 1.2kHz).
- LPF (Low Pass Filter): Allows frequencies below the set point to pass (for subwoofers). Adjust the LPF knob to the desired frequency (e.g., 50Hz - 250Hz).
- Bass EQ (CH3&4): This control allows you to boost bass frequencies for channels 3 and 4. Start at '0' and adjust carefully to avoid distortion.
6. Operating Instructions
Once properly installed and configured, operating your Autotek TA4150 amplifier is straightforward:
- Power On/Off: The amplifier will automatically turn on when your vehicle's head unit is powered on (via the remote wire) and turn off when the head unit is off. The blue POWER LED (Figure 4.2) indicates the amplifier is operational.
- Volume Control: Adjust the overall system volume using your head unit's volume control. The amplifier's gain controls should be set to match the output of your head unit and speakers, not used as a primary volume control.
- Protection Mode: If the red PROTECT LED (Figure 4.2) illuminates, the amplifier has entered protection mode due to a fault (e.g., short circuit, overheating, low voltage). Turn off your audio system and vehicle, then troubleshoot the issue before restarting.
7. Maintenance
The Autotek TA4150 amplifier requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-term performance.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
