Safety Guidelines
Always adhere to the following safety precautions when operating the soldering station:
- Ventilation: Work in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling solder fumes. Consider using a fume extractor.
- Eye Protection: Always wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from splashes of molten solder or flux.
- Burn Hazard: The soldering iron tip reaches high temperatures. Avoid direct contact with skin or flammable materials. Use the provided safety rest.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the specified voltage (120V AC for this model). Do not operate with damaged cords or plugs.
- Work Surface: Use a heat-resistant work surface. Keep the work area clean and free of clutter.
- Tool Handling: Handle the shear cutter and other sharp tools with care to prevent injury.
- Unplug When Not in Use: Always unplug the soldering station when not in use or before performing maintenance.

Getting Started (Setup)
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the packaging and inspect them for any damage.
- Place Station: Position the WE1010NA soldering station on a stable, heat-resistant, and well-ventilated surface.
- Connect Soldering Iron: Plug the WEP70 soldering iron's connector into the designated port on the front of the soldering station. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
- Assemble Safety Rest: Place the PH70 safety rest near the soldering station. Ensure the sponge is moistened with distilled water before use.
- Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the soldering station and then plug it into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.
Operation
Powering On and Temperature Control
- Power On: Flip the power switch on the front of the soldering station to the 'ON' position. The digital display will illuminate.
- Set Temperature: Use the up and down arrow buttons on the station to adjust the desired temperature. The display shows both the set temperature and the actual tip temperature.
- Temperature Stability: The station maintains temperature stability within 6 degrees Celsius, ensuring consistent soldering results.

Basic Soldering Technique
- Prepare Components: Ensure the components and PCB pads are clean and free of oxidation.
- Heat Joint: Place the soldering iron tip against both the component lead and the PCB pad simultaneously. Allow a few seconds for the joint to heat up.
- Apply Solder: Feed the solder wire onto the heated joint, not directly onto the iron tip. The solder should flow smoothly and evenly around the joint, forming a shiny, cone-shaped connection.
- Remove Solder and Iron: Once enough solder has flowed, remove the solder wire first, then the soldering iron. Avoid moving the component until the solder has solidified.
- Trim Leads: Use the 170MN shear cutter to trim excess component leads close to the solder joint.

Maintenance
- Tip Cleaning: Regularly clean the soldering iron tip by wiping it on the moistened sponge in the safety rest. This removes excess solder and oxidation.
- Tip Tinning: Before and after each use, and periodically during extended use, apply a small amount of fresh solder to the tip. This 'tins' the tip, preventing oxidation and prolonging its life.
- Tip Replacement: If the tip becomes heavily oxidized, pitted, or no longer heats effectively, replace it with a genuine Weller ET series tip.
- Station Cleaning: Keep the soldering station and iron handle clean by wiping them with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Sponge Maintenance: Keep the sponge moist during operation. Replace the sponge if it becomes worn or excessively dirty.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Soldering iron not heating up. | Power switch off; loose connection; incorrect voltage; faulty iron/station. | Ensure power switch is ON. Check iron connection to station. Verify power outlet is 120V AC. If issues persist, contact support. |
| Solder not melting or flowing properly. | Tip not hot enough; oxidized tip; incorrect solder type. | Increase temperature setting. Clean and re-tin the tip. Ensure you are using appropriate lead-free solder. |
| Digital display is blank. | No power; power cord loose. | Check power connection to outlet and station. Ensure power switch is ON. |
| Iron enters sleep mode too quickly. | Default sleep timer setting. | Refer to the full user manual for instructions on adjusting the sleep mode timer settings. |
