2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before using this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Do not use the device if it appears damaged or is not operating correctly.
  • Always verify the device's functionality on a known live circuit before use.
  • Do not exceed the specified voltage range (12V-1000V AC).
  • This device detects AC voltage. It is not designed for DC voltage detection.
  • Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears.
  • Keep hands and fingers away from the tip of the detector during operation.
  • Always follow local safety regulations and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

3. Setup: Battery Installation

The BSIDE AVD06 requires one 9V (6F22) battery (not included). Follow these steps to install the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Open the cover by sliding it or unscrewing if applicable (refer to the diagram).
  3. Insert one 9V (6F22) battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

  • To power on, rotate the sensitivity adjustment knob clockwise from the "OFF" position.
  • To power off, rotate the sensitivity adjustment knob counter-clockwise to the "OFF" position.

4.2 Mode Selection (Automatic / Manual)

The AVD06 features dual operating modes:

  • Automatic Mode: The device automatically detects and indicates the presence of AC voltage. This mode is suitable for general voltage detection.
  • Manual Mode: Allows for adjustable sensitivity, useful for specific tasks like distinguishing live wires or finding breakpoints.

To switch between modes, press the "MODE" button (blue button on the side). The device will indicate the current mode via an LED indicator.

4.3 Sensitivity Adjustment (Manual Mode)

In Manual Mode, the sensitivity can be adjusted using the rotary knob:

  • Rotate clockwise to increase sensitivity (detects voltage from further away).
  • Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease sensitivity (requires closer proximity to voltage source).
  • Use lower sensitivity for precise detection in complex wiring; use higher sensitivity for finding hidden wires or deeper wall sockets.

4.4 Interpreting LED Indicators and Alarms

The AVD06 uses 8 LED indicators (2 green, 3 yellow, 3 red) and audible alarms to indicate voltage strength. The number and color of illuminated LEDs, along with the alarm frequency, correspond to the detected voltage level.

Image 3: LED Indicator Guide. This diagram explains how the 8 LED indicators (green, yellow, red) light up to signify low, mid, and high voltage levels in both automatic and manual modes.

Manual Mode Indications:

  • Low Voltage (12V-48V): 2 green LEDs illuminate, low-frequency alarm sounds.
  • Medium Voltage (48V-90V): 2 green and 3 yellow LEDs illuminate, high-frequency alarm sounds.
  • High Voltage (90V-1000V): 2 green, 3 yellow, and 3 red LEDs illuminate, much higher-frequency alarm sounds.

Automatic Mode Indications:

  • Low Voltage (48V-90V): 2 green LEDs illuminate, low-frequency alarm sounds.
  • Medium Voltage (90V-130V): 2 green and 3 yellow LEDs illuminate, high-frequency alarm sounds.
  • High Voltage (130V-1000V): 2 green, 3 yellow, and 3 red LEDs illuminate, much higher-frequency alarm sounds.

4.5 Live Wire Detection

To distinguish a live wire, place the detector tip near the wire. The wire with the stronger voltage signal (more LEDs illuminated, higher alarm frequency) is typically the live wire.

4.6 Breakpoint Finding

In Manual Mode with appropriate sensitivity, move the detector along a live wire. The point where the voltage indication (LEDs and alarm) stops or significantly decreases indicates a potential breakpoint in the wire.

Image 5: Breakpoint detection. The image shows the detector's tip illuminating a dark area, suggesting its use in locating issues in dimly lit spaces or for breakpoint detection.

4.7 Flashlight Function

The AVD06 includes a built-in LED flashlight for use in dimly lit environments. Press the flashlight button (usually located near the tip or on the side) to turn it on or off.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate readings. Remove the battery if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Device does not power on.Dead or incorrectly installed battery.Check battery polarity; replace with a new 9V battery.
Inconsistent or no voltage detection.Low battery; incorrect sensitivity setting (Manual Mode); device too far from voltage source.Replace battery; adjust sensitivity (increase); move closer to the voltage source.
False positives (detects voltage where none is present).High sensitivity setting (Manual Mode); electromagnetic interference.Decrease sensitivity; move away from other electronic devices.
