Image Description: A detailed view of the Orient Kano/Big Mako RA-AA0010B19B automatic watch. The watch features a black dial with luminous hour markers and hands, a day and date display at the 3 o'clock position, and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a black insert. The stainless steel case is paired with a black silicone strap. The dial indicates "ORIENT Automatic" at 12 o'clock and "Water Resist 20 bar" at 6 o'clock.
Key Components
- Crown: Used for setting time, date, and manual winding.
- Bezel: Unidirectional rotating bezel for elapsed time measurement.
- Dial: Displays time, day, and date.
- Hands: Hour, minute, and second hands with luminous material.
- Strap: Durable silicone strap.
Initial Setup
Winding the Watch
Your Orient automatic watch is powered by the motion of your wrist. Before initial use or after the watch has stopped, it is recommended to manually wind it.
- Ensure the crown is in the normal position (position 0, fully pushed in and screwed down).
- Unscrew the crown by turning it counter-clockwise until it springs out to position 0.
- Rotate the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will provide sufficient power reserve to start the watch.
- The watch will also wind automatically with wrist movement during wear.
Setting the Time and Date
- Unscrew and pull the crown out to position 2 (the outermost position). The second hand will stop.
- Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To avoid confusion between AM/PM, advance the hands past 12 o'clock. If the date changes, it is midnight.
- Push the crown in to position 1 (middle position).
- Rotate the crown clockwise to set the date. Rotate counter-clockwise to set the day.
- Important: Do not set the date or day between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM, as this can damage the movement. If you need to set the date/day during this period, first set the time outside this range (e.g., to 6:00 AM), then set the date/day, and finally reset the time.
- Once the day and date are set, pull the crown out to position 2 again.
- Set the correct time, ensuring AM/PM is accurate.
- Push the crown back to position 0 (normal position) and screw it down firmly by turning it clockwise while applying slight pressure, to ensure water resistance.
Operation
Automatic Winding
The watch is equipped with an automatic winding mechanism. Normal daily wear (approximately 8-10 hours) will keep the watch sufficiently wound. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop. In this case, manually wind it as described in the "Winding the Watch" section.
Using the Unidirectional Rotating Bezel
The bezel rotates counter-clockwise and can be used to measure elapsed time.
- Align the triangle marker on the bezel with the minute hand at the start of the event you wish to time.
- Read the elapsed time by noting the position of the minute hand against the bezel's scale.
Care and Maintenance
Water Resistance (20 bar / 200 meters)
Your watch is water resistant to 20 bar (200 meters), making it suitable for swimming and diving.
Important: Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water. Do not operate the crown or pushers (if any) while the watch is wet or submerged.
After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch thoroughly with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth.
Cleaning
Wipe the watch case and strap regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For silicone straps, a mild soap solution and water can be used, followed by thorough rinsing and drying.
Temperature Extremes
Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures (above 60°C / 140°F or below 0°C / 32°F) or sudden temperature changes, as this can affect accuracy and seals.
Magnetic Fields
Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, mobile phones), as magnetism can affect the accuracy of mechanical movements. If your watch becomes magnetized, it may need demagnetization by a qualified watchmaker.
Troubleshooting
Watch Stops Running
- Cause: Insufficient power reserve.
- Solution: Manually wind the watch (30-40 turns of the crown) or wear it for at least 8-10 hours to allow the automatic movement to wind.
Time is Inaccurate
- Cause: Watch is magnetized.
- Solution: Keep the watch away from strong magnetic sources. If inaccuracy persists, consult a watchmaker for demagnetization.
- Cause: Watch needs regulation.
- Solution: Mechanical watches can vary in accuracy. If the deviation is significant and consistent, a watchmaker can regulate the movement.
Date/Day Not Changing Correctly
- Cause: Date/day was set during the restricted period (9:00 PM - 4:00 AM).
- Solution: Avoid setting the date/day during this period. If the issue persists, consult a watchmaker.
