5. Setup

Follow these steps for initial setup and installation of your dash cam:

  1. Insert MicroSD Card: Before powering on, insert a compatible MicroSD card (Class 10 or higher, up to 32GB recommended) into the designated slot until it clicks.
  2. Mount the Dash Cam: Attach the windshield mount to the dash cam. Clean a spot on your windshield, ideally near the rearview mirror, ensuring it does not obstruct your view. Press the suction cup firmly against the glass and engage the lock.
  3. Connect Power: Plug the small end of the car charger cable into the dash cam's power input. Plug the other end into your vehicle's 12V power outlet (cigarette lighter socket).
  4. Adjust Angle: Adjust the dash cam's lens angle to ensure it captures the road clearly, with the horizon in the middle of the screen.
  5. Power On: The dash cam will typically power on automatically when the vehicle's ignition is turned on. If not, press and hold the Power button.
  6. Initial Settings: Upon first use, you may need to set the date, time, and language. Navigate through the menu using the control buttons.

6. Operating the Dash Cam

6.1. Basic Recording

Once powered on, the dash cam will automatically begin recording in a continuous loop. The recording indicator (usually a red dot or flashing icon) will appear on the screen.

6.2. Loop Recording

The dash cam records video in segments (e.g., 1, 3, or 5 minutes). When the memory card is full, the oldest unlocked files will be overwritten automatically to make space for new recordings. This ensures continuous recording without manual intervention.

6.3. G-Sensor (Collision Detection)

The built-in G-Sensor detects sudden acceleration, braking, or impacts. When triggered, the current video segment is automatically locked and saved to prevent it from being overwritten by loop recording. The sensitivity of the G-Sensor can be adjusted in the settings menu.

6.4. Parking Mode

With Parking Mode enabled and the dash cam connected to a continuous power source (or using its internal battery for short periods), the device can detect impacts or motion while your vehicle is parked. If an event is detected, it will automatically start recording and lock the footage.

7. WiFi Connectivity and Mobile App

The Motorola MDC500 features built-in WiFi, allowing you to connect your smartphone or tablet to the dash cam for easy viewing, downloading, and sharing of recorded footage via a dedicated mobile application.

  1. Download the App: Search for the official Motorola Dash Cam app (e.g., Hubble Dashcam) on your device's app store (Google Play Store for Android, Apple App Store for iOS).
  2. Enable WiFi on Dash Cam: Access the dash cam's menu and enable the WiFi function. The screen will display the WiFi network name (SSID) and password.
  3. Connect Your Device: On your smartphone/tablet, go to WiFi settings and connect to the dash cam's WiFi network using the provided password.
  4. Open the App: Launch the mobile app. You should now be able to see a live view from the dash cam, browse recorded videos, download them to your device, and adjust certain settings remotely.

7.1. GPS Functionality

The integrated GPS module records your vehicle's location and speed data along with the video footage. This information can be viewed during playback on the dash cam or through the mobile app/desktop software, providing crucial context for any recorded events.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the dash cam's body and lens. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • SD Card Management: Format the MicroSD card regularly (e.g., once a month) using the dash cam's menu option. This helps maintain card health and prevents data corruption. Back up any important footage before formatting.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the dash cam in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
