Strap Adjustment (NATO Strap)
The watch is fitted with a green textile NATO strap. This strap is designed to be easily adjustable and comfortable.
- Thread the long end of the strap through the spring bars behind the watch case, ensuring the watch is centered on the strap.
- Pass the long end through the two metal loops on the shorter, folded part of the strap.
- Adjust the strap length by pulling the excess through the buckle until it fits comfortably on your wrist.
- Secure the strap by inserting the pin into one of the holes and tucking any excess strap back through the keepers.

Setting the Time
The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical watch is a hand-wound mechanical timepiece.
- Unscrew the Crown (if applicable): Some models may have a screw-down crown for enhanced water resistance. If so, gently unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it springs out to position 1. This model typically has a push/pull crown.
- Pull the Crown to Position 2: Gently pull the crown outwards to the second position. This will stop the second hand (hacking feature) and allow you to set the time precisely.
- Set the Time: Rotate the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to move the hour and minute hands to the desired time. The dial features both 12-hour and 24-hour (military) time markings for convenience.
- Push the Crown Back: Once the time is set, push the crown back into its original position (position 0). The second hand will resume movement.
- Screw Down the Crown (if applicable): If your watch has a screw-down crown, gently push it in and screw it clockwise until it is fully secured against the case. This ensures water resistance.

Operating the Watch
Winding the Movement
As a mechanical watch, the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical requires manual winding to operate.
- Ensure the crown is in its original, pushed-in position (position 0).
- Rotate the crown clockwise. You will feel a slight resistance and hear a soft clicking sound as the mainspring is wound.
- Continue winding until you feel a firm resistance, indicating the mainspring is fully wound. Do not force the winding past this point to avoid damage. A full wind typically provides a power reserve of approximately 80 hours.
- It is recommended to wind the watch daily, preferably at the same time each day, to maintain consistent timekeeping.
Water Resistance
This watch has a water resistance rating of 5 bar (50 meters). This rating means the watch is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water, such as washing hands.
- Do not operate the crown or pushers (if any) while the watch is wet or submerged.
- Avoid exposing the watch to hot water, steam, or sudden temperature changes, as this can compromise the seals.
- The water resistance rating is not permanent and may decrease over time due to wear and tear on gaskets. It is recommended to have the water resistance checked periodically by an authorized service center.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch:
- Wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
- For the textile NATO strap, it can be gently hand-washed with mild soap and water, then air-dried. Ensure the strap is completely dry before reattaching it to the watch.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the watch's finish or strap.
Storage
When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. The original watch box is ideal for storage.
Servicing
Like all mechanical watches, your Hamilton timepiece requires periodic servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. It is recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized Hamilton service center every 3-5 years. Regular servicing includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as checking and replacing seals to maintain water resistance.
Troubleshooting
- Watch Not Running: Ensure the watch is fully wound. If the watch has been stopped for an extended period, it may require a few turns of the crown to start the movement before fully winding.
- Time Inaccuracy: Mechanical watches are subject to slight variations in timekeeping. If the watch is consistently running too fast or too slow beyond acceptable limits (typically +/- 15-30 seconds per day for a mechanical watch), it may require regulation by a professional watchmaker. Ensure the watch is fully wound daily.
- Condensation Under Crystal: If you notice condensation or moisture inside the watch, this indicates a breach in water resistance. Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage to the movement. Do not attempt to dry it yourself.
- Strap Wear: The textile NATO strap is durable but will show signs of wear over time. Replacement straps can be purchased from authorized Hamilton retailers or watch strap suppliers.
