Setup

1. Placement

Place the Audiolab 6000A on a flat, stable surface, ensuring adequate ventilation around the unit. Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, and areas with high humidity.

2. Connecting Speakers

Connect your passive speakers to the speaker output terminals on the rear panel. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for both left and right channels. Use high-quality speaker cables for optimal sound.

3. Connecting Audio Sources

  • Analog Sources: Connect CD players, tuners, or other analog devices to the AUX1, AUX2, or AUX3 RCA inputs.
  • Turntable: Connect a turntable with a Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge to the PHONO input.
  • Digital Sources: Connect digital audio sources like TVs, game consoles, or media streamers to the OPT1, OPT2 (Optical) or COAX1, COAX2 (Coaxial) inputs.

4. Power Connection

Once all audio connections are made, connect the supplied power cable to the AC inlet on the rear panel and then to a suitable wall outlet. Ensure the main power switch on the rear panel is in the OFF position before connecting.

Operating

1. Powering On/Off

First, ensure the main power switch on the rear panel is in the ON position. Then, press the front panel Power button to turn the unit on or put it into standby mode.

2. Input Selection

Rotate the SEL knob on the front panel to cycle through available input sources (e.g., AUX1, OPT1, Bluetooth, Phono). The selected input will be displayed on the screen.

3. Volume Control

Rotate the VOL knob clockwise to increase volume and counter-clockwise to decrease volume. The current volume level will be shown on the display.

4. Operating Modes

The Audiolab 6000A features three distinct operating modes, selectable via the MODE knob:

  • Integrated Mode: Standard amplifier operation, where the pre-amplifier and power amplifier sections work together.
  • Pre-Power Mode: The pre-amplifier section is bypassed, allowing the 6000A to function purely as a power amplifier. Useful when connecting an external pre-amplifier.
  • Pre-Amplifier Mode: The power amplifier section is bypassed, allowing the 6000A to function purely as a pre-amplifier. Useful when connecting an external power amplifier via the Pre-Out terminals.

5. Bluetooth Pairing

To pair a Bluetooth device:

  1. Select the Bluetooth input using the SEL knob.
  2. The display will show "PAIRING" or similar, indicating it's ready to connect.
  3. On your mobile device, enable Bluetooth and search for "Audiolab 6000A".
  4. Select the amplifier from the list to complete pairing. Once connected, the display will confirm.

6. DAC Functionality

The Audiolab 6000A incorporates an ESS 9018K2M DAC, allowing for high-resolution digital audio playback. Connect your digital sources (e.g., CD transport, network streamer) to the optical or coaxial digital inputs to utilize the internal DAC.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean the exterior of the amplifier. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Periodically check that the ventilation slots are clear of dust and debris.
